अंधश्रद्धा म्हटलं की सामान्यतः लोकांच्या मनात नरबळी, भूत-प्रेत, तांत्रिक-मांत्रिक अशा गोष्टी येतात, ज्या बव्हंशी खऱ्या आहेतही. पण 'अंधश्रद्धा' ही एक व्यापक संज्ञा आहे, जी केवळ काळी जादू वा नरबळी यापुरतीच मर्यादित नाही. मग 'अंधश्रद्धा' या संज्ञेअंतर्गत कोणत्या गोष्टी येऊ शकतात आणि अंधश्रद्धा दूर करणं म्हणजे नेमकं काय हे समजून घेऊ.
अंधश्रद्धेत पहिला भाग येतो तो तांत्रिक विधींचा. मुळातच तंत्रशास्त्र या विषयाबद्दल अनेक गैरसमज आहेत. शिवाय अंधश्रद्धा भारतात खूप जास्त प्रमाणात आहे असाही एक गैरसमज आहे. या शास्त्राबद्दलची अर्धवट माहिती आणि त्यामुळे निर्माण झालेली अढी यामुळे असे गैरसमज सहज पसरले गेले आहेत. मी आधी एका लेखात या शास्त्राबद्दलची जुजबी माहिती दिली आहेच. तांत्रिक विधी म्हणजे आपण वैयक्तिकरित्या केलेला कोणताही विधी असतो हे वाचकांनी ध्यानात घ्यावं. ज्या विधींसाठी पुरोहितांची गरज लागते ते वैदिक विधी आहेत. मग आता तांत्रिक विधींमध्ये अंधश्रद्धा कशी असते हे समजून घेऊ. तांत्रिक शाखेतील अघोरी विद्या ही सांसारिक व्यक्तीने करू नये. अशा विद्यांमध्ये अनेक विधी लिहिले आहेत जे शब्दशः घोर आहेत. उदा: नरबळी. आता ज्या काळी हे विधी लिहिले गेले त्या काळी ते केले गेले असले पाहिजेत. कारण मनुष्य हत्या ही काही फार मोठी गोष्ट मानली जात नसावी. याची उदाहरणं संपूर्ण जगातील विविध संस्कृती व धर्मांत आहेत. हे विधी ज्या साठी केले जात असत त्याची कारणंही अनेक आहेत जी आत्ताच्या काळात योग्य ठरत नाहीत. अतिशय जुन्या काळी रोम, चीन, माया संस्कृती, केल्टिक राज्य, भारत, अझ्टेक संस्कृती, अमेरिका इत्यादी ठिकाणी मनुष्यबळी दिला जात असे. नंतरच्या काळात यावर बंदी आणली गेली, जी योग्यच होती. आताच्या काळात अशा अघोरी विधींच्या माध्यमातून कोणतीही गोष्ट मिळवणे किंवा कोणत्याही देवाला प्रसन्न करणे बेकायदेशीर आहेच पण कोणत्याही तत्त्वात न बसणारे आहे. म्हणूनच अशा गोष्टी अंधश्रद्धा या सदरात मोडतात. पण आजच्या काळातील अंधश्रद्धा ही प्राचीन काळातील श्रद्धा होती हे अमान्य करता येणार नाही. या सर्व अघोरी विधींचा निश्चित उगम सांगणं कठीण आहे. पण केवळ भारतातच नव्हे तर अनेक देशांत नरबळी, काळी जादू, शैतानाची साधना (satanism), चेटूक अशा अनेक विद्या निर्माण झाल्या आणि वापरल्या गेल्या.
असो, याबद्दलचा आणखी एक गैरसमज म्हणजे अशा अघोरी विद्या भारतात जास्त प्रचलित आहेत. भारतातील अनेक भोंदू बाबा, तथाकथित गुरु यांना अशा गुन्ह्यांमध्ये अटक झाली आहे. अर्थातच यातील बहुतांशी स्वयंघोषित गुरु खरे साधक नाहीतच. त्याशिवाय मनुष्य हत्या, स्त्रियांवरील अत्याचार, आर्थिक फसवणूक असेही गुन्हे यांच्याकडून घडले आहेत. परंतु असे गुन्हे केवळ भारतातच घडतात हे मात्र सत्य नाही. आज अमेरिकेसारख्या अत्यंत प्रगत देशातील आकडेवारी पाहिली तर लक्षात येईल की भारताइतकेच किंबहुना जास्त गुन्हे तेथे अंधश्रद्धेमुळे घडत आहेत. चार्ल्स मॅन्शन, मार्शल ऍपलव्हाईट, मार्कस वेसन, डेव्हिड कोरेश असे एक ना अनेक लोक स्वतःचे कल्ट (पंथ) तयार करून लोकांना यात गुंतवत आहेत. इतकेच नव्हे तर मोठमोठी हत्याकांडेही यांनी केली आहेत. थायलंड मधील जॉर्ज डुबी, फ्रान्स मधील ऑर्डर ऑफ सोलार टेम्पल चे जो दि माम्ब्रॉ आणि लुक जोरेट, दक्षिण कोरियाची चोई सून सिल असे अनेक पंथ निर्माते आहेत ज्यांच्यामुळे जगभरात निरपराध लोकांचे बळी गेले आहेत.
मग भारतातील निरक्षरता, (तथाकथित) जुने विचार ह्यामुळे आपण स्वतःला अंधश्रद्धाळू म्हणवून घ्यावं का? तर याचं उत्तर नाही असंच सांगावं लागेल. अनेक सुशिक्षित मंडळी आज ह्या मार्गाकडे ओढली जात आहेत. आज अमेरिकेसारख्या देशात Satanism म्हणजेच शैतानाचा पंथ स्वीकारणाऱ्या अनेक व्यक्ती आहेत. Satanic church / temples म्हणजेच शैतानाची मंदिरे आहेत. अगदी लहान मुलांना देखील After school satan या कार्यक्रमात दाखल केलं जातं. आफ्रिकन संस्कृतीतील व्हुडू ही काळी जादू आजही अतिशय प्रसिद्ध आहे. चेटूक (Witchcraft) तर संपूर्ण जगात वापरलं जात असे. लोकांच्या मानसिकतेचं एक उदाहरण द्यायचं तर, इटलीचे जगप्रसिद्ध व्हायोलिन वादक आणि संगीतकार पेगानिनि यांची हाताची बोटे एका जनुकाच्या दोषामुळे लांबसडक होती. ते अतिशय लहानपणी इतक्या शिताफीने व्हायोलिन वाजवत की लोक त्यांना चेटूक केलेली किंवा पछाडलेली व्यक्ती म्हणत. यामुळे आणि त्यांना पिशाच्चबाधा झाली आहे असे समजून तेथील चर्चने त्यांचा मृतदेह जिनोआ या त्यांच्या गावी पुरण्यासही मनाई केली होती (सौजन्य: विकिपीडिया). आता निसर्गदत्त देणगीमुळे वादनाची कला अवगत केलेल्या आणि उपजतच संगीताची जाण असणाऱ्या कलाकाराबद्दल अशी शंका उपस्थित केली जाऊ शकते तर सामान्यांची काय कथा. म्हणूनच अंधश्रद्धा आणि भारतीय संस्कृती यांचा संबंध लावणं मला योग्य वाटत नाही. अंधश्रद्धा कोणत्याही सारासार विचार न करणाऱ्या व्यक्तीमध्ये असू शकते. त्याचा देश, धर्म वा संस्कृतीशी कोणताही संबंध नाही.
अंधश्रद्धेत येणारा दुसरा भाग म्हणजे व्यावहारिक आयुष्यातील अंधविश्वास. अशा अंधविश्वासांना आपण सहजासहजी अंधश्रद्धा म्हणणार नाही. पण असे अंधविश्वासही अनेकदा आपलं नुकसान करत असतात. याबद्दलची माहिती आणि अंधश्रद्धा दूर करायची म्हणजे नेमकं काय याबद्दल पुढील लेखात माहिती घेऊ.

To most people the word 'superstition' carries with it some dark images of human sacrifice, ghosts-phantom, Tantrik or exorcist. These are mostly true but superstition is an encyclopaedic term. It is not limited to human sacrifice or black magic. Now lets see which things come under superstition and what does it exactly means by eradication of superstitions.
One part of superstition is Tantric rituals. Basically Tantra shastra is a highly misunderstood science. Also there is a big misconception that superstitions are widely spread in India. Incomplete information about this science and a grudge created due to this, have stimulated these misconceptions to spread quickly. I have already mentioned briefly in one of my earlier article about Tantra shastra. Readers should keep in mind that any ritual performed personally is a Tantric ritual. Vedic rituals can be performed by priests only. Now lets understand how superstition plays its role in these rituals. Aghori sect in Tantra shastra is not meant for mundane people. Many rituals in Aghori sect are literally horrible or bloody e.g. human sacrifice. We should consider the fact that in ancient times when these rituals were written they were in the supreme belief system. They were performed regularly as human sacrifice was not considered as dark as in today's world. The examples of such rituals can be seen in many cultures and religions at that time. The reasons for such rituals were different which are not considered valid today. In ancient time cultures/religions like Roman, Chinese, Celtic, Mayan, Indian, Aztec, American etc used human sacrifices as rituals for different purposes. After human civilization this was banned and which is right so. Today performing any such horrific rituals for any personal gain or pleasing a deity is not only illegal but unethical too. That is why such rituals come under the term 'superstition'. One thing is for sure that today's superstition was once a matter of belief system. The exact origin of such rituals is very difficult to know. Along with India, different cultures around the world created and used the cults with rituals like human sacrifice, black magic, satanism, witchcraft etc.
Well, there is another misunderstanding that such cults or Aghori sects were mostly used in Indian continent. Many imposters, self declared gurus are convicted of felony. Obviously most of them are not true seekers of knowledge. And such fraudulent seekers have committed serious crimes like murders, rape, financial frauds etc. But it is not true that such crimes are common in only India. If we check the statistics of crimes in a developed country like USA, it can be easily seen that due to superstitions same number of crimes (in fact more) are committed there as compared to India. People like Charles Mansion, Marshall Applewhite, Marcus Wesson, David Koresh have created their own cults and involved innocent people. It is not only limited to involvement, but these cult leaders have even massacred innocent victims. Speaking about the cults formation around the world, George Dubie from Thialand, Luc Jouret and Jo Di Mambro of The Order of Solar Temple from France, Choi Soon Li from South Korea are some of the cult leaders responsible for the deaths of many people.
So after knowing all these facts is it like only Indians are to be blamed for being superstitious due to illiteracy and (so called) orthodox society? Then the clear answer is NO. Many literate or highly qualified people are attracted to such cults. Today many people in developed countries like USA are devoted Satanists. There are Satanic Churches/Temples at various places. Children are sent to After School Satan programmes at a very young age. African black magic 'Voodoo' is popular even today. Witchcraft was used worldwide. A simple example can explain the peoples' mentality towards such cults. Famous Italian musician and composer Niccolò Paganini had abnormally long and thin fingers due to Marfan syndrome (a rare medical condition). He played violin with such a great skill at a very tender age, that people called him possessed by devil. Because of this and his widely rumored association with the devil, the Church denied his body a Catholic burial in Genoa (Wikipedia). If a born talented and naturally gifted artist can be defamed, then what about a common man? That is why we can not relate superstitions and (only) Indian culture. So irrespective of the country, religion or culture, superstition can develop in any person who is not able to think practically.
Another part of superstition includes blind belief in practical life. Many people won't include these unfounded beliefs in the category superstition. But many times these beliefs equally harm us. Well I will try and explain about these beliefs and eradication of superstition in the next article.
