जॅनिस जॉप्लिन एक झंझावात..2 (Fast and furious.. Janis Joplin-2)

मी मागील लेखात सांगितल्याप्रमाणे जॅनिस जॉप्लिनच्या कुंडलीवरून काही मुद्दे मांडण्याचा इथे प्रयत्न करणार आहे. वयाच्या अवघ्या २७ व्या वर्षी या वादळी व्यक्तिमत्त्वानं जगाचा निरोप घेतला. तरी एवढ्या लहान वयातही तिनं सारं काही मिळवलं. यश, पैसा, प्रसिद्धी, व्यसनं, शरीरसुख कोणत्याही बाबतीत काही मिळवायचं राहिलं आहे, असं झालं नाही. म्हणूनच तिच्या कुंडलीवरून आपल्याला बरंच काही शिकता येईल असं मला वाटतं.  

जॅनिसची कुंडली पुढीलप्रमाणे आहे: 

 

जॅनिसच्या कुंडलीत लग्नी कुंभ ही शनिची रास आहे. लग्नेश शनि चतुर्थस्थानी हर्षल बरोबर आहे. जॅनिसच्या बालपणाचा विचार करायचा तर लग्नेश शनि आणि चंद्र दोन्ही ग्रह शुभ स्थितीत आहेत. चंद्र मिथुन राशीत पंचमात असल्यानं तिला बालपणी त्रास, संघर्ष असं काही करावं लागलं नाही. वडिलांचा कारक रवि व्ययात शुभ स्थितीत आहे. तो शुक्र आणि बुधाबरोबर असल्यामुळे तिच्यावर तिच्या वडिलांचा खूप प्रभाव होता. तिला संगीत क्षेत्रात येण्यासाठी वडिलांनी खूप पाठिंबाही दिला. आई - वडील दोघांचं प्रेम आणि पाठिंबा यामुळे ती स्वतःला या क्षेत्रात आणू शकली. उलटपक्षी नाव मिळाल्यावर तिलाच एक मुलगी म्हणून चांगलं वागता आलं नाही याची तिला खंत होती. एकदा तिच्या कुटुंबाला लिहिलेल्या पात्रात तिनं म्हटलं होतं " मी कमकुवतपणे का होईना पण कुटुंबात अतिशय वाईट वागल्याची क्षमा मागत आहे."         

तिच्या कुंडलीत शुक्राच्या राशीत शनि आणि हर्षल असल्यानं तिला अनपेक्षितरीत्या यश मिळालं. तिला स्वतःलाही याची कल्पना नव्हती असं ती सांगत असे. शनि हा परीक्षा पाहणारा ग्रह आहे. अनेक लोक शनिला पापग्रह म्हणून घाबरतात. पण शनि किती उच्च कोटीचं यश देतो याचं हे उत्तम उदाहरण आहे. ह्या शनि हर्षल जोडीची पूर्ण दृष्टी दशम म्हणजे कर्मस्थानावर असल्यानं हे अनपेक्षित यश मिळालं पण त्यामुळे बदनामीनं तिची पाठ काही सोडली नाही. मुख्यतः मनमुक्त वागणं आणि समाजाच्या चौकटीत अडकलेल्यांच्या दृष्टीनं बोलायचं तर 'बिघडल्यामुळे' तिची खूप बदनामी झाली. पण हा शनि लग्नेश आणि व्ययेश असल्यानं तिला कीर्ती आणि पैसा ह्या दोन्ही गोष्टींची फळं फार लवकर मिळाली. रोहिणी नक्षत्रातला हा शनि तिच्यासाठी खूप शुभ ठरला. कलेचा कारक शुक्र आणि पंचमेश बुध हे दोन्ही ग्रह कला क्षेत्रासाठी फार महत्त्वाचे आहेत. हे दोन्ही ग्रह एकत्र व्ययस्थानात आहेत. त्यामुळे तिची कीर्ती देशोदेशी पसरली. बुध ग्रह इथे फार महत्त्वाच्या भूमिकेत आपल्याला दिसतो. तो वाणीचा कारक असल्यानं तिचा वेगळ्या जातकुळीतला आवाज, संगीत सादर करण्याची कला आणि मुक्तपणा यामुळे तिनं तुफान यश मिळवलं. अनेक देशांत तिचं नाव गाजलं. मात्र दशमस्थानी असलेल्या वृश्चिक राशीमुळे तिची अनेक ठिकाणी वादावादी झाली. मंगळ हा तीव्र ग्रह इथे दशमेश असून तो लाभस्थानी गुरूच्या धनू राशीत आहे. त्यामुळे मिळालेल्या लाभात तिला अनेकदा वाद आणि स्पष्टवक्तेपणामुळे थोडं नुकसान सहन करावं लागलं. धनेश गुरू चंद्राबरोबर पंचमात आणि पंचमेश बुध शुक्राबरोबर व्ययस्थानी ह्या मुख्य योगांमुळे तिला प्रचंड यश मिळालं. आर्थिक बाबतीतही ती समाधानी होती. तिच्या संगीत क्षेत्रातील कारकिर्दीबद्दल बोलायचं तर जागा अपुरी पडेल. गोऱ्या समाजातील इतर कलाकारांप्रमाणे नेहमीची वाट न धरता तिनं Blues (ब्लूज) ह्या लोकसंगीताची वाट धरली. कृष्णवर्णीयांची कला अशी समाजात प्रतिमा असतानाही तिनं ह्याच संगीत प्रकारात नाव मिळवलं. आणि अमेरिकेची पहिली रॉकस्टार बनण्याचा सन्मानही प्राप्त केला.         

तिच्या कुंडलीत मंगळाची पंचम स्थानावर पूर्ण दृष्टी आहे. कलेच्या ह्या स्थानावर जिथे चंद्रही आहे तिथे मंगळाची पूर्ण दृष्टी असल्यानं तिची कारकीर्द वादग्रस्तच राहिली. पंचम आणि सप्तम स्थानाचा मिलाफ म्हणजे आयुष्यातील प्रेमप्रसंग आणि विवाह याबाबतीत मिळणारी फलप्राप्ती. गुरू ज्या स्थानी असतो त्या स्थानाचा नाश करतो असं म्हणतात. पंचमातील ह्या गुरूनं आपल्या ५, ७, आणि ९ व्या दृष्टीनुसार तिला लाभ, भाग्य आणि निर्मळ स्वभावाचं फळ जरूर दिलं. पण सप्तमातील राहू आणि पंचमातील गुरू - चंद्र यांचा एकत्रित विचार केला तर तिला प्रेमप्रसंगात स्थैर्य असं लाभलंच नाही. अर्थात ह्याला तिचा चंचल स्वभाव, अनेक लोकांशी असलेले शारीरिक संबंध हे सारं कारणीभूत आहे. पण मिथुन राशीतल्या चंद्राचा विचार केला तर हे सारं काही फार अनपेक्षित नव्हतं. एका जागी निवांत होऊन रमणारा हा जीवच नव्हता. अत्यंत वेगवान आयुष्य जगताना ह्या speed freak असलेल्या मुलीनं एक मोठा थांबा घेऊन आपला प्रवास खंडित करावा हे घडणारं नव्हतं. तेच तर तिचं वैशिष्ट्य होतं. हा वेगवान प्रवास कुणाला फारसा मानवलाच नाही. त्यामुळे ठराविक साच्यातल्या व्यक्तींना ज्यांना तिनं आपली 'जीवनसाथी' बनावी ही अपेक्षा होती त्यांचा पूर्णपणे अपेक्षाभंग झाला. षष्ठातील प्लूटो आणि अष्टमातला नेपच्यून ह्यामुळे तिचं सप्तमस्थान पापकर्तरी योगात होतं असं म्हणता येईल. त्यातून सप्तमातला राहू आणि लग्नी असलेला केतू यामुळे वैवाहिक सौख्य तिला मिळालं नाही. तिच्या आई वडिलांनाही तिचा सहवास फार काळ मिळाला असं नाही. पण तिचं त्यांच्यावरचं प्रेम अबाधित राहिलं हे खरं. 

पंचमातल्या ह्या गुरू चंद्रामुळे ती कलाक्षेत्रात येताना एक नाजूक, कल्पनाशक्तीनं रसरसलेलं असं मन घेऊन आली. नितांत सुंदर अशी गाणी तिनं लिहिली आणि सादरही केली. मंगळाची पंचमावर पूर्ण दृष्टी आणि पंचमेश बुध व्ययस्थानी असल्यानं तिनं बोलताना, वागताना वा कला सादर करताना निर्भीडपणे सादर केली. हाच मंगळ तृतीयेशही असल्यानं तिला भीती ठाऊक नव्हती. अत्यंत हिमतीनं तिनं कृष्णवर्णीय लोकांशी मैत्री केली आणि कधीही लपवली नाही. त्या काळात हे एक धैर्याचं काम होतं. सप्तमातल्या राहुमुळे तिच्या खाजगी आयुष्यात वेगळेपण आलं, जी त्या वेळी बंडखोरी होती. तिच्या आयुष्यात कृष्णवर्णीय व्यक्तीही होत्या, स्त्रियाही होत्या आणि पुरुषही. चंद्र, मंगळ आणि राहू या ग्रहांमुळे तिचं संपूर्ण आयुष्य वादग्रस्त राहिलं असं माझं मत आहे.  

जॅनिसच्या कुंडलीतील पंचमातला मिथुन राशीतला चंद्र बरंच काही सांगून जातो. मुख्य म्हणजे तिनं तिच्यावर झालेली टीका कधीही मनाला लावून घेतली नाही. खूप चांगल्या स्थितीत असलेल्या ह्या चंद्रामुळे तिचं मन घट्ट होतं, किंबहुना तिला कोणत्याही गोष्टीनं फरक पडत नसे. कुणासाठी थांबणं वा रडत राहणं तिला ठाऊक नव्हतं. गुरू चंद्र एकत्र असल्यानं एक नक्की सांगता येईल कि ह्या मनस्विनीचं मन अतिशय निर्मळ आणि शुद्ध होतं. मुद्दाम प्रवाहाच्या विरोधात जाणं, कुणाला दुखावणं हा तिचा हेतू नव्हता. गुरूनं तिच्या मनाला एक पावित्र्य दिलं होतं. तिच्या बेफाम वागण्यानं ज्यांना त्रास झाला असेल ते ठराविक साच्यातील विचार करणारे असावेत. जॅनिस अशा लोकांना कधी उमगलीच नाही. तिनं जी कला सादर केली ती मनापासून केली आणि म्हणूनच लोकांना ती आवडली. लग्नेश शनि असूनही ती कधीही निराश झाली नाही. कायम चांगला विचार करून ती आपल्या मार्गानं पुढे जात राहिली. शनिची कोणतीही दृष्टी चंद्रावर नसल्यानं ती कायम प्रसन्न, हसतमुख असायची. मात्र मंगळाची चंद्रावर जी दृष्टी होती त्यामुळे तिचं वागणं कधी कधी अगोचरपणाचं होत असे. स्टेजवर वा बाहेर किंचाळणं, दुकानात चोरी करणं अशा काही गोष्टी तिच्याकडून घडल्या. अर्थात याला तिचं गर्दचं व्यसन कारण असेलही, कारण गर्दच्या अंमलाखाली असताना तिला भान राहिलं नसणार हे उघडच आहे. 

व्ययातले बुध, शुक्र हे तिच्या विलासी आयुष्यासाठी कारण असणारे ग्रह आहेत. सर्वसाधारण फलप्राप्ती पाहता व्ययात जर बुध आणि शुक्र असेल तर व्यक्ती विलासी, व्यसनी होते. अनेकदा ह्यामुळे आर्थिक अडचण भासते पण जॅनिस आर्थिक अडचणीत कधी सापडली नाही. पण व्ययातील ग्रहांमुळे तिची अटक, व्यसनामुळे मृत्यू ह्या गोष्टी काही टाळता आल्या नाहीत. मृत्यूचा कारक मानला गेलेला शनि तिच्या कुंडलीत चतुर्थ स्थानी आहे. शानिच्याच महादशेत रवि अंतर्दशेत तिचा मृत्यू ओढवला. व्ययस्थानी रवि असल्यानं व्यसनामुळे तिचा मृत्यू झाला. अष्टमेश बुध तिच्या कुंडलीत रवि बरोबरच आहे. त्यामुळे तिचा मृत्यू घरी न होता एका हॉटेलच्या तिच्या खोलीवर झाला. 

असो, काहीही असलं तरी ती एक प्रतिभावान कलाकार होती आणि मुख्य म्हणजे मुक्त आयुष्य जगणारी होती. मुक्तपणाचा खरा अर्थ तिच्या आयुष्यावरून समजतो. कलेला वाहून घेतलेल्या ह्या सरळ मनाच्या मनस्विनीचा मृत्यू मात्र खूप लवकर झाला. जॅनिस आणखी जगली असती, तर संगीतच काय आणखी काही क्षेत्रात तिनं मानसन्मान मिळवले असते आणि अजूनही आपल्याला खूप काही शिकवलं असतं. पण ह्या चिरतरुण, रांगड्या मुलीला आपण म्हातारी झालेलं, थकलेलं पाहूच शकलो नसतो आणि तिलाही असं उत्तरार्धातलं आयुष्य रुचलं नसतं. कदाचित म्हणूनच कि काय परमेश्वरानं तिला ऐन तारुण्यात, कारकीर्दीच्या शिखरावर असताना बोलावून घेतलं. म्हणजे रसिकांच्या मनातली तिची प्रतिमा कायम राहील. तिच्या या अकल्पित जाण्यानं मला पु. ल. देशपांडे यांनी बेळगावच्या 'रावसाहेब' ह्यांच्या मृत्यूनंतर लिहिलेलं एक वाक्य आठवलं "आपली छोटीशी जीवनं समृद्ध करण्यासाठी देवानं दिलेली ही मोलाची देणगी. न मागता दिली होती, न सांगता परत नेली. "

As I have mentioned in my previous article, I am trying to explain the life of Janis Joplin from an astrological point of view. Though this Rockstar with a stormy personality drew her last breath merely at the age of 27, she achieved everything possible in her short life. It was nothing that she could not achieve, may be it success, money, fame, addictions or even sexual satisfaction. That is why I feel that we can learn a lot from her kundli. 

Janis's kundli is as follows:

In her kundli, Aquarius is the ascendant which is ruled by Saturn. The lord of Ascendant Saturn is situated in the fourth house with Uranus. Thus, if we think about her childhood then Saturn and Moon both are placed at a very good position. The Moon situated in the fifth house in Gemini, shows as a child she never had to struggle in her life. Sun which governs her father and paternal side is also placed in a good condition in the twelfth house. As it is also accompanied by Venus and Mercury, this 'Little Blue Girl' was always supported by her father to meet her ambition. In fact she was influenced by her father. The support by her parents really mattered a lot for her and helped her to achieve her goal in life. On the contrary she was driven by a constant need to please her parents. Once she wrote a letter to her family saying " Weak as it is, I apologize for being just so plain bad in the family."

Saturn and Uranus in the sign of Venus in her kundli gave her enormous but unexpected success. Even Janis once mentioned that she was not expecting such huge success in her life. Most people have a bad impression about Saturn as it tests us and pushes us to our limits. But this is the best example of a good Saturn giving unlimited success to the native. Though this pair of Saturn and Uranus is fully aspecting the 10th house i.e. the house of Karma in her kundli, it also stigmatized her to some extent. This stigmata was precisely due to her audacious behaviour which was a kind of 'spoiled' behaviour for the white collar society. As this Saturn is the lord of Ascendant as well as the twelfth house, she achieved fame and money at a very young age. Saturn in the Rohini Nakshatra proved very auspicious for her. Lord of the art Venus and the fifth house lord Mercury are at a very important position for the success in art in her kundli. Both these planets are placed in the twelfth house. This really helped her in achieving success in different countries. Mercury plays a vital role here. As it governs the speech, it gave her tremendous success due to her unique vocal style, presentation and mainly unrestrained behaviour. She successfully performed at many concerts in different countries. The Scorpio sign in her tenth house gave her some negative results though. She had to face confrontations and split from a few bands. The tenth house lord Mars which is a very aggressive planet sits in the 11th house (house of gains) in the sign of Jupiter. This resulted in the loss in her gains in some or the other way due to her straightforward nature. The second house lord (house of money) Jupiter placed in the fifth house along with the Moon and the fifth house lord Mercury along with Venus are the two main yogas which gave her a huge success. These yogas also made her financially accomplished. It is not possible to review her huge success in music in such a small article. She didn't choose the regular path of the then white singers, but went for the music genre Blues. The music form mainly involved African American performers, but Janis chose the genre as her career. Nonetheless, she is considered as the first Rockstar of America. 

In Janis's kundli, Mars is fully aspecting the fifth house. This house representing the art of the native also has Moon situated there, which lead to a controversial career of this Rockstar. The combined results of the fifth and the seventh house are about the love life and marriage of the native. Jupiter spoils the results of the house where it is placed. So, though the Jupiter placed in her fifth house gave favourable results of the houses which it is aspecting i.e. 5, 7 and the 9th house from it which are gains, prosperity and unclouded nature. It proved to be inauspicious for her lovelife. Combined with the Moon in the fifth house and Rahu in the seventh house, Jupiter didn't allow her to settle in a married life.  Of course this was also the result of her fickle nature and infidelity. I feel her transient nature was also not unexpected due to the Moon in the sign like Gemini. She was not from the category of people who really want to 'settle' down at one point of life. This 'speed freak' was not interested in applying a break to her fast life. And that was the speciality of Janis. Her speedy life was not everybody's cup of tea. So the people who loved her but expected her to be their 'life partner' were badly hurt or disappointed. Due to Pluto in the sixth house and Neptune in the eighth house her seventh house (house of marriage) was in a 'Paapkartari yog'. On the top of it Rahu and Ketu in the seventh and first house respectively proved to be malefic for her married life. Even her parents were not blessed by a harmonious cohabitation with Janis. But Janis purely loved her parents. 

The Jupiter - Moon combination in the fifth house granted her a delicate mind with a power of imagination and creativity. She composed and presented many beautiful, everlasting songs. Due to the Mars completely aspecting the fifth house in her kundli and the fifth house lord Mercury placed in the twelfth house, Janis was completely fearless while talking, in behaviour and also in the presentation of her art. As this Mars is also the third house lord, it made her venturous and gutsy. While living in the then racist era compared to today's world, she never feared to show her friendship with the outcasts. It was a perilous behaviour at the time. Rahu in the seventh house also made her personal life controversial. Her lovers included men and women both including some Afro Americans. I clearly feel that the positions of Moon, Rahu and Mars made her whole life turbulent.  

The Moon placed in Gemini in the fifth house in her kundli says a lot. Importantly she never paid attention to the criticism she faced. The favourably positioned Moon made her a strong minded person, in fact there were hardly any things in life which truly affected her in a negative way or stopped her from achieving her goals. She was never a cry baby who would stop her fast life for anybody. I can surely say that the combination of Moon and Jupiter made her a 'pure' human being with a clean and serene mind. She never purposely went against the flow or deliberately hurt anybody. Jupiter gave her a sinless mind. The people who were hurt due to her behaviour were probably from the typical conservative or narrow minded framework. Such people never understood Janis as a person. Janis always presented her art of music with a pure mind and that was the real reason behind her enormous success. Though her ascendant was Saturn, she was never fidgety or unpleasant. She was always focused and went along her chosen path unbiased. As this Saturn never aspected the Moon in her kundli, she was always smiling and pleasant. Although the Mars aspecting the Moon made her a bit inapprehensible. Though this made her behave abrasively like screaming at times or shoplifting. Of course her drug addiction may have affected her behaviour, as due to drug intake people are influenced in such a way that they are not in their senses at times. 

The presence of Mercury and Venus in the twelfth house made her amative. Commonly when Venus and / or Mercury are present in the twelfth house make the native amative or addicted to luxurious life. Many times such planetary position causes financial trouble but luckily Janis was financially very strong. But the planets in the twelfth house could not stop the activities like her addictions or her arrest. The lord of death, Saturn is situated in her fourth house. She died in the mahadasha of Saturn and antardasha of Sun. The Sun placed in the twelfth house caused her death due to addiction i.e. drug overdose and alcoholism. The eighth house lord Mercury is also placed in the twelfth house along with the Sun. So her death occurred in a hotel room away from her home.

Well, considering all these hard facts in her life we can not forget that Janis was a talented artist and mainly a free bird. We can learn the meaning of 'freedom' from her life. This arbitrary persona and a true artist died too young. If Janis were alive today she would have definitely achieved fame in many fields other than music. She would have taught us many things by her deeds. Nevertheless, I feel even we could not have been able to see this evergreen and sturdy persona, being old or tired or done up. Even she would not have accepted such a life. Perhaps, God has taken her away because we should always remember as a young and electric personality. Her sudden demise has shocked the whole world but I remember a comment by a famous author P. L. Deshpande on the demise of the similar personality named 'Ravsaheb' from Belgavi (India). P. L. Deshpande writes of Ravsaheb's death " This was a gift by God to make our small lives bounteous. He gifted us (with such people) without asking and took (them) away without telling."

अमेरीकेतील वातावरण मुळातच आकर्षक आहे. विशेषतः ज्यांना व्यक्ती स्वातंत्र्याची आवड आहे, त्यांना हा देश आणि इथलं मोकळं ढाकळं वातावरण नेहमीच भुरळ पाडतं. या मोकळेपणामुळे संगीत क्षेत्रातही अनेक क्रान्तिकारक बदल इथे घडले आणि इथल्या जनतेनं ते मनापासून स्वीकारले. वर्णद्वेष, धर्म, जात असल्या राजकारण्यांच्या हातातील खेळण्यापासून कलाक्षेत्र बऱ्यापैकी सुरक्षित राहिलं. सुरुवातीला काही काळ वर्णद्वेष आणि पुरुषी अहंकाराच्या कचाट्यातून कलाक्षेत्राला बाहेर यायला थोडा अवधी जरूर लागला. १८८० मध्ये शिकागो मध्ये संगीत क्षेत्रातील टीकाकार जॉर्ज अप्टन यांनी त्यांच्या 'विमेन इन म्युझिक' या पुस्तकात मत मांडलं होतं कि " स्त्रियांमध्ये जैविक कारणांमुळे उत्तम संगीत बनवण्याची कला नसते." २०व्या शतकाच्या सुरुवातीला रिचर्ड रूबेलीन आणि रिचर्ड बेल यांनी मत व्यक्त केलं कि आपल्या संगीत क्षेत्राच्या इतिहासात स्त्रियांची नावं (कवियत्री) गाळणं हि एक अत्यंत लाजिरवाणी गोष्ट झाली आहे. कारण त्या काळात स्त्रियांना पुरुषांनी लिहिलेली गाणी सादर करता येत होती पण संगीत देणं हे स्त्रियांचं कामच नाही असं म्हणून त्यांना कोणतंही पद वा अधिकार दिला जात नसे. हळूहळू बदल घडत गेले आणि रॉक, जॅझ अशा अनेक संगीत प्रकारात स्त्रियांनी नाव गाजवलं. संपूर्ण स्त्रियांचे असे म्युझिक बँड आले.  

रॉक या संगीत प्रकारानं त्या काळच्या तरुण पिढीला अक्षरशः वेड लावलं. यातलंच एक आग्रगण्य नाव म्हणजे जॅनिस जॉप्लिन. अत्यंत बंडखोर स्वभावाची आणि आपल्या बिनधास्त वागण्यानं तरुणाईच्या गळ्यातील ताईत बनलेली हि गोड गळ्याची हरहुन्नरी कलाकार, नावारूपाला आली नसती तरच नवल. केवळ एक कलाकार म्हणून तिची ओळख करून द्यायला मी हा लेख लिहिलेला नाही, तर खऱ्या अर्थानं व्यक्ती स्वातंत्र्य कसं असावं हे तिच्या आयुष्यावरून शिकता येईल. समाजाच्या चौकटी मोडून आयुष्य झपाट्यानं जगावं हा तिचा बाणा होता, मग भले आयुष्य कमी असलं तरी चालेल. एका स्त्रीनं असं आयुष्य जगणं त्या काळी समाजाला फारसं रुचलं नाही. श्लील अश्लीलतेच्या बंधनात न जगता तिनं आपल्या छोट्या आयुष्यात सारं काही मिळवलं. म्हणूनच तिची कारकीर्द आणि तिच्या कुंडलीचा अभ्यास करून त्यावर माझ्या पद्धतीनं माहिती देण्याचा मी प्रयत्न करत आहे.   

१९ जानेवारी १९४३ रोजी पोर्ट आर्थर, टेक्सस इथे डोरोथी आणि सेथ जॉप्लिन या दाम्पत्याला जॅनिस हे कन्यारत्न झालं. किशोर वयातच काही बहिष्कृत लोकांशी तिची मैत्री झाली. त्यांचा ग्रुप ब्लूज (Blues) ह्या आफ्रिकन अमेरीकन लोकांच्या संगीत प्रकाराचे कार्यक्रम करत होता. त्या मित्र परीवारामुळेच आपण संगीत क्षेत्राकडे वळलो असं जॅनिस आवर्जून सांगत असे. तिनं शाळेत असतानाच ब्लूज आणि लोकसंगीत गायला सुरुवात केली. त्यामुळे तिला शाळेत अनेकदा वाळीत टाकलं गेलं. ती खूप जाड होती आणि मुरुमं झाल्यामुळे तिच्या अंगावर इतके डाग पडले कि तिला शस्त्रक्रिया करून घ्यावी लागली. कृष्ण वर्णीय लोकांशी केलेल्या मैत्रीमुळे तिला शाळेत पिग, फ्रीक, निग्गा लव्हर, क्रीप अशी नावं पडली, ज्याची तिनं फारशी फिकीर केली नाही. याच काळात अनेक व्यक्तींशी मुक्तपणे ठेवलेल्या शारीरिक संबंधांमुळे तिची बदनामी झाली. एक अत्यंत जहाल मुलगी जिला दारू प्यायला खूप आवडतं अशी तिची जणू व्याख्याच बनून गेली. समाजाच्या चौकटीत ती कधी बसलीच नाही. त्या काळचं कॉलेज कॅम्पसचं वृत्तपत्र द डेली टेक्सन यात २७ जुलै १९६२ रोजी "She Dares to be Different" या मथळ्याखाली तिच्या बिनधास्त वागण्याचं वर्णन केलं. ती हवं तेव्हा अनवाणी येते, हवी तेव्हा लेविस (जिन्स) घालते, जवळ हार्प ठेवते म्हणजे पाहिजे तेव्हा गाणं म्हणता येईल. जिचं नाव आहे जॅनिस जॉप्लिन. अशी हि माहिती होती. अतिशय लहान वयात दारू, सिगारेट, गर्द अशा सर्व व्यसनांचा मनसोक्त उपभोग घ्यायला तिनं सुरुवात केली. खूप दारू पिऊन नशेत असताना तिनं पाहिलं गाणं लिहिलं (डिसेंबर १९६२) जे तिचं पाहिलं ध्वनि मुद्रित गाणं आहे "What Good Can Drinkin' Do". त्यानंतर १९६३ आणि १९६४ मध्ये तिने अनेक प्रसिद्ध गाणी गायली जेव्हा ती टेक्सस सोडून सॅन फ्रॅन्सिस्कोला आली होती. 

१९६३ मध्ये ऑस्टिन मध्ये कलाक्षेत्राचं शिक्षण घेत असताना तिला The Ugliest Man on Campus हे नाव पडलं. तिचं रांगडं रूप आणि कृष्णवर्णीय लोकांशी मैत्री यामुळे त्या काळच्या गोऱ्या समाजाला ती खटकत होती. तिचं नावारूपाला येणं अनेकांना पाहवत नव्हतं. त्याच सुमारास दुकानात वस्तू चोरताना तिला अटक झाली. त्यानंतर तिचं गर्दचं व्यसन खूप वाढलं. तिचं वजन ४० किलो झालं. मग १९६५ मध्ये तिनं काही काळ व्यसनांपासून दूर रहायचं ठरवलं. १९६५ मध्ये तिनं पीटर दे ब्लांक बरोबर साखरपुडा केला. पण काही काळानं त्यानं तिला नकार दिला. १९६५ - ६६ मध्ये तिनं मानसोपचार तज्ज्ञाकडून काही उपचार घेतले. त्या संस्थेला जॅनिसच्या मृत्यूनंतर तिच्या स्मरणार्थ 'युनाइटेड वे' असं नाव देण्यात आलं. पण व्यसनांपासून लांब राहणं काही फार काळ टिकलं नाही. जॅनिसच्या मते तिला व्यसनांपासून दूर राहून गाणी म्हणायचं बंद करायचं झालं तर ती एक साधी स्त्री बनून एक साधी नोकरी मग लग्न मग आई होणं असं सामान्य आयुष्य जगेल, जे तिला नको होतं. त्यानंतर अनेक म्युझिक बँड्स मध्ये तिनं आपली कला सादर करून खूप नाव मिळवलं. तिच्या गाण्याची कारकीर्द इतकी मोठी आहे कि इथे सगळं लिहिणं शक्यच नाही. तिच्या आवाजाची जातकुळी नेहमीची नसल्यानं आणि तिच्या सुंदर गीत रचनेनं तिनं लोकांच्या मनात पट्कन घर केलं. Big Brother and the Holding Company सारख्या मोठ्या बँड बरोबर तिनं केलेलं काम खूप गाजलं. त्या आधी तिनं सात गाणी स्वतः गिटार वाजवून मुद्रित केली जी तिच्या मरणानंतर 'This is Janis Joplin 1965' या नावानं १९९५ मध्ये नवीन अल्बम म्हणून जेम्स गर्ले यांनी पुनः प्रसारीत केली. ज्यात तिनं स्वतः लिहिलेलं एक गीतही होतं. ३१ जुलै १९६८ रोजी तिचा टीव्हीवर पहिला कार्यक्रम झाला. त्याच्या २ महिने आधी Vogue मासिकात रिचर्ड गोल्डस्टिन या नामांकित वृत्तपत्रकारानं तिचं खूप कौतुक केलं होतं. १९६८ च्या काळात तिच्या दारूच्या व्यसनामुळे तिला काही ठिकाणी संघर्ष करावा लागला. अनेकदा ती दारूच्या आहारी असताना कार्यक्रम करत असे ज्यामुळे वादावादी होऊन तिला आधीच्या ग्रुपपासून वेगळं व्हावं लागलं. पण डगमगेल ती जॅनिस कुठली. तिनं Kozmic Blues Band नावाचा स्वतःचा एक ग्रुप तयार केला आणि एकटीच्या जीवावर काही कलाकारांना हाताशी धरून अनेक सुंदर गाणी सादर केली. देशोदेशी तिनं कार्यक्रम केले. इंग्लंड, ब्राझील अशा अनेक ठिकाणी केलेले तिचे कार्यक्रम गाजले. अनेक पत्रकारांना तिनं बिनधास्त मुलाखती दिल्या. कोणताही आडपडदा न ठेवता तिनं आपले विचार मांडले. कारकिर्दीच्या शिखरावर असतानाही तिच्या गाण्यापेक्षा बिनधास्त वागण्यामुळे ती जास्त चर्चेत राहिली. 

समाजातलं वागणं असो वा शारीरिक संबंध जॅनिस मोकळेपणानं वागत आली. मनस्वी लोकांचे अनेक किस्से आपण ऐकतो. काही खरोखर मनस्वी असतात तर काही लोक मी मनस्वी आहे हे दाखवण्यात धन्यता मानतात, मात्र एका मर्यादेपुढे त्यांची नाटकं चालत नाहीत. कारण त्यांना सामाजिक भान असतं, केवळ प्रसिद्धीसाठी ते असं करतात. पण जॅनिस खऱ्या अर्थानं मनस्विनी होती. तिनं आपलं बेभान आयुष्य कोणत्याही बंधनासाठी सोडलं नाही. किंबहुना ती बेभान झाली आहे हे तिच्या लेखी महत्त्वाचं नव्हतं कारण ते तिच्यासाठी नेहमीचंच होतं.         

तिचे पुरुष आणि स्त्रिया दोहोंशीही संबंध असत हे तिनं कधीही लपवलं नाही. तिचं खाजगी आयुष्यही वादग्रस्तच राहिलं. १९६३ मध्ये जे व्हिटेकर नावाच्या एका कृष्णवर्णीय स्त्रीबरोबर ती राहत होती. पण जॅनिसचं गर्दचं व्यसन आणि इतरांशी असलेले शारीरिक संबंध यामुळे जे तिच्या आयुष्यातून निघून गेली. पेगी कासेरटा बरोबर नंतर तिचे संबंध जुळले. जे जॅनिसच्या मरणापर्यंत होते पण त्यात खूप चढ उतार आले. पेगीनं तिच्या आणि जॅनिसच्या एकत्र आयुष्याबद्दल पुस्तकही लिहिलं आणि अनेक मुलाखतीही दिल्या. पुरुषांबद्दल बोलायचं तर तिच्या आयुष्यात अनेक पुरुष आले ज्यात संगीतकार लिओनार्ड कोहेन, टॉक शो करणारे डिक कॅव्हेट, संगीतकार कंट्री जो मॅकडॉनल्ड, कादंबरीकार सेथ मॉर्गन अशी काही नावं आहेत. सेथ मॉर्गन यांच्याबरोबर ती विवाह करणार होती. १९७० मध्ये मरणाच्या थोडं आधी ती ब्राझीलमध्ये असताना डेव्हिड नीहोस नावाच्या एका सामान्य अमेरीकन व्यक्तीशी तिची ओळख झाली. त्याचं प्रेमात रूपांतर झालं आणि डेव्हिडनं तिला गर्द (हेरॉईन) पासून दूर केलं. पण लवकरच तिनं परत व्यसन सुरु केलं आणि डेव्हिड तिच्यापासून दूर गेला. पण त्यानं तिच्यावर प्रेम करणं थांबवलं नाही. जॅनिसच्या मृत्यूनंतर तिच्या हॉटेलवर त्याचं पत्र आलं ज्यात त्यानं त्याच्या प्रेमाची कबुली देऊन तिला माहित नाही इतकं प्रेम तिच्यावर करत असल्याचं सांगितलं. जॅनिसवर चित्रपट बनवणाऱ्या ऍमी बर्ग यांच्या मते ते पत्र जॅनिसला मिळालं असतं तर कदाचित आज चित्र वेगळं असतं. काहीही असलं तरी तिच्या संपूर्ण आयुष्यात समाजाला माहित असलेल्या साच्यात ती कधी अडकलीच नाही.           

जॅनिसला घाबरणं जणू माहितच नव्हतं. एका पार्टीमध्ये ख्यातनाम संगीतकार जिम मॉरीसन यांचं काही वागणं तिला पटलं नाही तेव्हा तिनं सरळ एक दारूची बाटली त्यांच्या डोक्यावर फोडली. बॉब साईडमन या प्रसिद्ध फोटोग्राफरनं जेव्हा तिला अंगातील शर्ट काढून फोटो काढायला सांगितलं तेव्हा तिनं तिला नग्नावस्थेत फोटो द्यायला आवडेल असं सांगितलं. इतकंच नाही तर एकदा जेव्हा एका कार्यक्रमाला तिला उशीर झाला तेव्हा तिनं सरळ ती सेक्स करत असल्यानं उशीर झाला असं सांगितलं. अनेकदा ह्या कारणामुळे ती अंतर्वस्त्र न घालता स्टेजवर येऊन कार्यक्रम सादर करत असे. तिच्या ह्या बिनधास्त वागण्याचे अनेक किस्से आहेत. आणि ह्यामुळेच अनेक ठिकाणी तिची बदनामी किंवा पुरुषांनी तिला गृहीत धरण्याचे प्रकारही घडले. जॅनिसला स्टेजवर वा इतर वेळीही किंचाळायला फार आवडायचं. एकदा फ्लोरीडामध्ये कार्यक्रम असताना ती पोलिसांवर इतकी ओरडली कि तिला शेवटी अटक करावं लागलं.              

    

जॅनिस नावाच्या या वादळी व्यक्तीची एक नाजूक बाजूही होती. तिला चित्रकारीता आणि कविता करायला खूप आवडायचं. त्या काळच्या समाजात बंडखोरी करून कृष्णवर्णीय लोकांवर आपलं प्रेम व्यक्त करायला तिनं कधीच मागेपुढे पाहिलं नाही. ब्लूज या संगीत प्रकारची महाराणी असलेली बेस्सी स्मिथ हि कृष्णवर्णीय गायिका जॅनिसची आदर्श होती. बेस्सीचं १९३७ सालीच निधन झालं होतं. पण जेव्हा जॅनिसला कळलं कि तिला दफन करताना चांगली जागा मिळाली नाहीये तेव्हा जॅनिसनं स्वखर्चानं तिला सन्मानपूर्वक जागा उपलब्ध करून दिली आणि तिच्या थडग्यावर  “The Greatest Blues Singer in the World Will Never Stop Singing.” कोरून घेतलं. मी म्हणजे बेस्सीचाच पुनर्जन्म आहे असं ती अभिमानानं सांगत असे.  

मुद्दाम प्रवाहाच्या विरोधात जायचं म्हणून जॅनिस अशी कधीच वागली नाही. अगदी सहजतेनं गोष्टी घडत गेल्या. तिची व्यसनं, बेभान होणं, स्वच्छंद वागणं सारं काही सहाजवस्थेतच होतं, म्हणूनच तिचा कोणाला कधी राग आला नाही. मनसोक्त आयुष्य जगणाऱ्या या मनस्विनीचा मृत्यूही सगळ्यांना चटका लावून गेला. ४ ऑक्टोबर १९७० रोजी वयाच्या अवघ्या २७ व्या वर्षी तिचं निधन झालं. हॉलिवूडच्या लँडमार्क हॉटेलमध्ये मद्यधुंद अवस्थेत असताना गर्दच्या अतिसेवनामुळे (Drug overdose) तिचा प्राण गेला. ज्या बेभानपणाच्या आधारावर ती मनस्वी आयुष्य जगली त्या बेभानपणानेच तिचा जीव घेतला. म्हणूनच ती खऱ्या अर्थानं मनस्विनी होती. तिच्यावर अनेक चित्रपट, पुस्तकं सारं काही नंतर आलं. पण मरणानंतरही तिनं 'वेगळेपण' काही सोडलं नाही. वयाच्या २७व्या वर्षी अनेक कलाकार या ना त्या कारणानं मरण पावले आहेत. अशा व्यक्तींचा, विशेषतः कलाकारांचा एक 'क्लब'च तयार झाला ज्याला 'The 27 Club' म्हणतात. आणि रॉक संगीताची ही अभिषिक्त सम्राज्ञी या क्लबची पहिली सदस्य आहे. म्हणजे इथेही तिनं आपलं वर्चस्व गाजवलं. तिचा मृत्यू 'दुर्दैवी' होता असं मी कधीही म्हणणार नाही. तिनं ओढवून घेतलेलं ते मरण होतं. पण याची पूर्ण कल्पना असूनही जॅनिस मुक्तपणे बागडत राहिली. एका वेगळ्या जातकुळीच्या आवाजाची मधुर भेट तिनं आपल्याला दिली आहे, जी कायम स्मरणात राहील. या वेड्या बागड्या मुलीनं मरणाच्या ३ दिवस आधी म्हणजे १ ऑक्टोबरला आपल्या मृत्युपत्रात बदल केले. त्यात तिनं तिच्या मरणानंतर आपल्या जवळच्या मित्र परिवारासाठी २५०० डॉलर्स एव्हढी मोठी रक्कम ठेवली. तिच्या जाण्याचं दुःख न करता त्यांनी कॅलिफोर्निया मधील तिच्या आवडत्या पबमध्ये रात्रभर एक मोठी पार्टी करून जल्लोष करावा यासाठी ते पैसे ठेवले होते. "यामुळे माझा मित्र परीवार माझ्यानंतर एक जल्लोष करू शकेल" असं तिनं नमूद केलं होतं. 

अमेरीकेची पहिली रॉकस्टार म्हणून आजही तिच्याकडे आदरानं पाहिलं जातं. अशा ह्या रांगड्या प्रतिभेला आणि मनस्वी कलाकाराला माझा सलाम. 

जॅनिस जॉप्लिन तू कायम आमच्या स्मरणात राहशील !!!

America had been and remained an all time attraction for many people across the globe. Individual freedom here aspires to be universal. The freedom and the liberty of the culture always fascinates the world. Due to the opportunity for prosperity which is the ethos of the nation, many revolutionary changes in the field of music occurred here and the people accepted them without hesitation. The field of art was luckily in the safer hands and was a bit away from the political gewgaw like racism, religious intolerance etc. Of course in the early 1900's it took a bit of time to come out of racism and the image of being a man's world. In 1880 Chicago music critic George P. Upton argued in his book Women in Music that "Women lacked the innate creativity to compose good music". In the 20th century Richard A. Reublin and Richard G. Beil opined that "Lack of mention of women (songwriters) is a glaring and embarrassing omission in our musical heritage." In the earlier era, women were allowed to perform on the songs composed and written by males. But women composers were significantly underrepresented in the music repertoire just due to being women. Slowly many female artists emerged and conquered the world of music including Rock, Jazz etc. All-female bands also started at the same time and gained a huge popularity.

Rock music revolutionized the musical taste of the young generation. Janis Joplin is one of the pre-eminent name in the world of Rock n Roll. No wonder this rebellious and audacious singer with a unique vocal style, immediately captured the heart of the audience and became the heartthrob to the young generation. I haven't written this article to just introduce the readers to Janis as a singer, but one can learn about the true meaning of 'freedom' from her life. She always wanted to live a fast and furious life breaking the walls of the society, though it was at the cost of her life. The bolishie girl was not easy to digest for the white collar society. This raw talent achieved everything in her short life without getting bound into the etiquettes of the society, which seemed tasteless to her. Here, I am trying to explain her career and life from an astrological point of view.  

On 19th January 1943 at Port Arthur, Texas Dorothy and Seth Joplin were blessed with the baby girl named Janis. As a teenager she befriended a group of outcasts. The group performed in albums mainly in the Blues genre, which is an African-American folk music. She always mentioned that this group influenced her decision to become a singer. In her school days she began singing Blues and folk music. So she was ostracized and bullied in high school. After some time she became overweight and suffered so badly from acne that she required a surgery. Due to the close relationship with many black friends she was routinely taunted and called names like pig, freak, nigga lover, creep etc. but she naver bothered about it. Due to her reputation of being sexually promiscuous she faced a lot of vilification. Janis was known as a 'tough girl who likes to drink.' She didn't fit in with her peers...never. The campus newspaper, The Daily Texan, ran a profile of her in the issue dated July 27, 1962, headlined "She Dares to Be Different." The article began, "She goes barefooted when she feels like it, wears Levis to class because they're more comfortable, and carries her autoharp with her everywhere she goes so that in case she gets the urge to break into song, it will be handy. Her name is Janis Joplin." Janis started enjoying drugs, cigarettes and booze from a very early age. Her first song "What Good Can Drinkin' Do" was recorded in December 1962, when according to her it was written by her when she drank herself into a stupor. Then she recorded numerous hits in 1963 and 1964 when she left Texas for San Francisco. In 1963 while studying at the University of Austin, she was voted as The Ugliest Man on Campus. The racist white community could not tolerate her friendship with Afro Americans as well as the sturdy looks of a female musician. Many conservative people were jealous of her success. Then drug and alcohol fueled performances of this front woman of the band started causing trouble. In 1965 when her weight was reduced to just 40 kg, she tried to lead a sober life. In the same year she got engaged to Peter de Blanc. But after some time he rejected her and moved on in his life. In 1965 - 66 she had regular sessions with a psychiatric social worker in a counseling agency. This agency changed its name to 'United Way' after her death. Well, this sober lifestyle was really short lived. According to Janis if she were to live a sober life and avoid singing professionally, she would have to become a keypunch operator (as she had done a few years earlier) or a secretary, and then a wife and mother, and she would have to become very similar to all the other women in Port Arthur. Of Course which she never imagined. Then she performed in various bands and achieved huge success becoming the first female Rockstar of America. Her career in music is so vast that it is not possible to mention the details in a small article. She became the talisman of the youth due to her songwriting talent and a unique vocal ability. She became the lead singer of the famous band, Big Brother and the Holding Company. This gave her enormous fame and success. Before joining the band, she recorded seven studio tracks with her acoustic guitar. These tracks were later issued as a new album in 1995, titled This is Janis Joplin 1965 by James Gurley. Amongst the songs were a famous song composed by her. On 31 July 1968 she made her first nationwide television appearance. Just 2 months before her appearance, Richard Goldstein praised her in the May issue of Vogue. Around 1968 was the time when Janis started to struggle due to her alcohol and drug abuse. This was amongst the major reasons for her splitting from the Big Brother and the Holding Company. Then she formed the Kozmic Blues Band composed of many talented artists, which also gained huge popularity. She performed in various countries like the UK, Brazil etc. She gave many unafraid interviews and bold photoshoots. She fearlessly expressed her thoughts in her interviews. Even though she was at the peak of her career as the Queen of Rock, she caught more attention due to her audacious behaviour. 

May be the fearless behaviour or bisexual nature, Janis was always arbitrary and sometimes erratic. We often hear about people who are subject to anecdotes. But very few people are really arbitrate,  others are just faking their stories merely to remain in gossip. After a certain limit they can't continue with their imposture as they have social consciousness. Well, Janis was truly arbitrary and wild. She never stopped living her wild lifestyle for any fake consciousness as she never had one. The wildness was so normal for her that she casually thrust aside the social values.  

Janis never tried to hide her bisexual nature. She had troubled relationships with both men and women. In 1963 she briefly lived with an African American woman named Jae Whitaker. But she broke off their relationship because of Janis's hard drug use and sexual relationships with other people.  Janis then began a romantic relationship with Peggy Caserta. This on again off again relationship continued till Janis's death. Later, Peggy authored books and gave various interviews on their relationship. Regarding men in Janis's life, there are many names including notable celebrities like musician Leonard Cohen, talk show host Dick Cavett, musician Country Joe Mcdonald, novelist Seth Morgan and many more. Janis was all set to get married to Seth Morgan near the end of her life. In 1970 (just before her death) she went to Brazil and met a middle-class American traveller, David Niehaus. When David helped Janis kick her habit of drugs and alcohol, they fell in love. But their relationship suffered when she again started using drugs. In spite of this he never fell out of love. When Janis died in a hotel room, a telegraph from David was found. It wrote "Love you Mama, more than you know…". According to Amy Berg, who later made a film on Janis's life, thought that the things would have turned out differently if Janis had received it. Nonetheless, Janis could not mold herself in the mediocre lifestyle which could have been easily accepted by the society.            

'Fear' was the word which never appeared in the dictionary of this raw talent. Once at a party held, Janis was turned off by famous musician Jim Morrison’s obnoxious behavior. When she lost her temper, she hit him over the head with a bottle of booze. When photographer Bob Seidemann asked Janis if she’d pose topless for him to make a statement about the idealism of hippie culture, she said she would rather pose completely naked. Moreover, she wasn’t shy about showing off her body to her audiences. Once she was late to the stage because she had been having sex in her dressing room. When she appeared on the stage, she was not wearing her underwear. Janis has a rich store of such anecdotes. This not only caused the defamation but men were not hesitant to sexually advance. Janis always liked to scream on or off the stage. During one concert in Florida, she shouted obscenities at the police. It turned out so bad that she got arrested after the concert. 

This stormy persona had a delicate side which very few people know about. She liked painting and poetry. She rebelliously expressed her love for her African American friends, which was not accepted by the then racist society. The Empress of the Blues, African American artist Bessie Smith was her idol. Sadly she expired in 1937 but was buried in an unmarked grave. This bothered Janis to such an extent that she paid for a tombstone to be erected, with the epitaph, “The Greatest Blues Singer in the World Will Never Stop Singing.” Janis proudly told her friends that she believed she was Smith’s reincarnation.    

Janis never purposely went against the flow. It just happened with her naturally... smoothly..Her addictions, her audacious behaviour and entirely arbitrary behaviour was so natural that nobody hated her for all this. This wayward died too young, shocking everybody when the 'speed freak' permanently came to a standstill. On October 4th 1970, merely at the age of 27, she was found dead in her room in Hollywood's Landmark Motor Hotel due to drug overdose. Alcohol was also found in her blood. Unbridled passion was the driving force of her life and the same took her life. That is why she was literally arbitrary. There were many movies and books written about her life. But Janis truly exceptional, even after her death. There are many celebrities who died at the age of 27, leading to the collective name 'The 27 Club'. Janis the Queen of Rock, is the first member of this club. She dominated even after her death. I will never say that her death was unfortunate as she knowingly approached the death. Though she had an idea of the outcome of her outrageous behaviour, she continued to be like that. Her unique vocal style was a gift for the music lovers. This 'madwoman' made a few changes in her will just 3 days before her death i.e. on 1st October. In her will, she left her friends and family $2,500 to throw a wake party at her favourite bar in California. She mentioned "So my friends can get blasted after I'm gone." 

She is indeed America's first Rockstar. I salute her unbound, fearless persona and everlasting voice.

मनुष्येतर प्राणी आणि ज्योतिष शास्त्र (Non human creatures and Astrology)

हल्ली पाळीव प्राणी किंवा शेतीसाठी लागणाऱ्या प्राण्यांची सुद्धा कुंडली पाहिली जाते असं कुठेतरी वाचनात आलं. मनुष्य योनी सोडली तर इतर प्राण्यांसाठी हे शास्त्र लागू पडतं का असा एक प्रश्न मला विचारण्यात आला. वैदिक ज्योतिष शास्त्राचा विचार करून या विषयावर प्रकाश टाकण्यासाठी मी हा लेख लिहिला आहे. 

वैदिक ज्योतिष शास्त्र हे केवळ आणि केवळ मानव जातीसाठी आहे. त्या शास्त्राचे नियम ओढून ताणून इतर प्राणिमात्र, देश, राजकीय पक्ष अशांसाठी वापरू नये हे माझं स्पष्ट मत आहे. कुंडलीतील ग्रह - सर्व स्थानं आणि त्यांचं अधिपत्य यांचा वापर केवळ मनुष्य जातीसाठीच असावा. मग ज्योतिष शास्त्रात प्राण्यांचा उल्लेख कसा येतो? आणि त्याचा पाळीव प्राण्यांशी कसा संबंध जोडला जातो ते आता पाहू. 

आपल्या शास्त्रानुसार प्रत्येक देवतेला वाहन म्हणून एक प्राणी दिलेला आपण पाहतो. उदा: गणपतीचं वाहन उंदीर तर शंकराचं वाहन नंदी आहे. यामागे असलेल्या अनेक सुरस कथा आपण पुराणांत किंवा इतर ठिकाणी वाचतो / ऐकतो. या कथांची इथे तपशीलवार माहिती देणं शक्य नाही. पण या सगळ्याचं मूळ कारण अतिशय शास्त्रशुद्ध आणि समर्पक आहे. कोणत्याही प्राणिमात्राचं महत्त्व मनुष्याच्या नजरेत कमी होऊ नये यासाठी आपल्या शास्त्रांत अनेक प्राण्यांना देवतेचं वाहन म्हणून स्थान दिलेलं आहे. मनुष्य स्वभाव स्वार्थी असणं नैसर्गिकच आहे. त्यामुळे आपल्याला दृश्य स्थितीत तरी उपयोग नसणाऱ्या कोणत्या लहानसहान प्राण्याचाही अपमान वा विनाकारण हत्या होऊ नये आणि निसर्गाचा समतोल बिघडू नये म्हणून हा सगळा प्रपंच. आता हे कारण प्रत्येक जण समजून घेईलच याची शाश्वती नाही. म्हणून एखाद्या देवतेचं वाहन म्हणून जर स्थान दिलं तर त्याची निदान काही प्रमाणात तरी विटंबना थांबेल हा याचा मूळ उद्देश. म्हणूनच अगदी वाघ सिंहापासून ते कावळ्यापर्यंत अनेक प्राणी पक्षांचा यात समावेश केला गेलेला आपल्याला दिसतो. निसर्गाचा इतका विचार आपल्या शास्त्रात केला गेला आहे याचा मला नितांत आदर आणि अभिमान आहे. 

माणसाच्या कुंडलीनुसार त्यानं कोणते प्राणी पाळावे किंवा कोणत्या प्राण्याची उपासना करावी अशी काही माहिती काही ठिकाणी दिलेली आढळते. यामागे कारणं वेगळी आहेत. मुख्य म्हणजे प्राण्यांशी संबंधित व्यवसाय असणारे जे लोक आहेत उदा: शेतकरी, खाटीक इत्यादी अशा व्यक्तींनी कोणते प्राणी पाळल्यास जास्त फायदा होईल हे केवळ निसर्गाला धरूनच नाही तर त्यांच्या उपजिवीकेसाठीही उपयुक्त ठरतात. अशा वेळी गरज नसताना किंवा व्यवसायाशी संबंधित नसलेल्या प्राण्यांची फरफट होऊ नये हा मुद्दा असतो. असे व्यवसाय नसणाऱ्यांसाठी दोन प्रकारचे सल्ले दिलेले आढळतात. एक तर पाळीव प्राणी कोणता असावा किंवा एखाद्या प्राण्याची उपासना करणे हा एक ज्योतिष शास्त्रीय उपाय असतो. यामागील तत्त्वंही आता समजून घेऊ. अनेकांना घरात पाळीव प्राणी असावा असं वाटतं. त्यामागे अनेक कारणं असली तरी प्राणीप्रेम, घराची सुरक्षा ही मुख्य कारणं दिसून येतात. पाळीव प्राणी घरात ठेवायचा असेल तर कुंडलीनुसार कोणत्या प्राण्याच्या कोषांमुळे घरात चांगली ऊर्जा येईल हे पाहिलं जातं. कारण मनुष्य जन्माचं चक्र समजून घेतलं तर ८४ लक्ष योनींमध्ये फिरणाऱ्या व्यक्ती कोणत्या ना कोणत्या जन्मी प्राण्याच्या वा कीटकांच्या रूपात जीवन जगतात. त्यामुळे प्राण्यांच्या भोवतीही सप्तकोष असतातच. मनुष्य कुंडलीनुसार कोणत्या प्राण्यापासून चांगली ऊर्जा मिळेल याचं निदान होऊ शकतं. मग असा प्राणी जर घरात असेल तर त्यामुळे निश्चितच फायदा होतो. पूर्वी अनेक लोक कावळे, सरडे, सापसुद्धा पाळत असत. आजकाल काही नियम आणि संस्कृतीनुसार झालेल्या विचारांच्या बदलांमुळे पाळीव प्राण्यांची व्याख्या बदलली आहे. पण घरात चांगली ऊर्जा वाढवणं हा प्राणिपालनाचा प्रमुख उद्देश आहे. केवळ प्राणिमात्राचं सौंदर्य हा मुद्दा गौण आहे. आता याचं एक उदाहरण देते. श्वान / कुत्रा हे राहू वा केतूचं प्रतीक आहे. त्यामुळे राहू - केतूचे अगदी साधारण दोष असतील तर घरात कुत्रा असावा असं सांगितलं जातं. ह्याचाच पुढील भाग म्हणजे एखाद्या प्राण्याची उपासना करणे. जेव्हा कुंडलीनुसार एखाद्या प्राण्याची उपासना, त्याला विशिष्ट पदार्थ विशिष्ट मुहूर्तावर खायला देणं किंवा तंत्रशास्त्रात विशिष्ट रंगाच्या प्राण्याची सेवा करणं असे उपाय दिलेले असतात तेव्हा त्याचा संबंध त्या कुंडलीतील ग्रहांशी असतो. प्राणी पालन आणि विशिष्ट आराधना यात फरक आहे. जसं प्रत्येक ग्रहाचं कारकत्व असतं तसंच प्रत्येक ग्रहासाठी एखादा प्राणी नेमला आहे. मग कुंडलीतील ग्रहांच्या स्थितीनुसार ग्रहांची वाईट फळं कमी करण्यासाठी एखाद्या प्राण्याची आराधना सांगितली जाते. एखाद्या ग्रहासाठी एखादं रत्न सांगितलं जातं तसाच हा मार्ग आहे. ही आराधना करताना तो प्राणी पाळलाच पाहिजे असंच काही नाही. वैदिक आणि विशेषतः तंत्रशास्त्रात अनेक मार्गांनी ही आराधना सांगितली आहे. उदाहरणार्थ काही अडचणींसाठी काळ्या कुत्र्याला ७ दिवस पोळी खायला द्यावी असा एक उपाय असतो. मग यात तो कुत्रा घरचाच असला पाहिजे असं नाही. रस्त्यावरील कुत्र्याला खायला देऊनही योग्य तो परीणाम साधता येतो. यामागे ग्रहांचे परीणाम, पापक्षालन असे अनेक उद्देश असतात. 

आता मुद्दा येतो तो प्राण्यांवरील ज्योतिष शास्त्रीय परीणामांचा. मुळात प्राण्यांची कुंडली बनू शकते यावर माझा कोणताही विश्वास नाही. कुंडली ही मनुष्य जातीसाठी आहे ज्याला आयुष्यातील काही नियम आणि भावनांच्या आधारे आयुष्य जगायचं आहे. मनुष्य जन्म मिळताना ह्या सर्व गोष्टींमुळे त्याला एक वेगळाच अर्थ प्राप्त होतो. मात्र मनुष्येतर प्राणी म्हणून जन्मताना ह्याचा संबंध नसून केवळ तीन कर्मांच्या आधारे ते भोग भोगून पुढील वाटचाल करायची असते. त्यात भावना, आयुष्याचे सामाजिक नियम असा कोणताही भाग नसून केवळ निसर्ग नियमांच्या आधारे तो प्राणी आयुष्य जगतो. प्राण्यांचे जगण्याचे नियम नसतात असं मुळीच नाही. पण त्यात निसर्गात टिकून राहणं आणि आपली प्रजा वाढवणं हेच उद्देश असतात. मनुष्याच्या आयुष्यातील घटना उदा: शिक्षण, विवाह, अर्थार्जन वा कोणतीही (मनुष्यासारखी) भावना याचा संबंध प्राण्यांच्या आयुष्यात येत नसल्यानं त्यांची जन्मवेळ पाहून त्यांची कुंडली मांडणं ही केवळ अतिशयोक्ती आहे. प्राण्यांच्या भावना (उदा: कुत्रा) ह्या प्रेमाच्या मानल्या तरी मनुष्यासारख्या सर्वंकष भावनांचा यात समावेश होत नाही. एखाद्या प्राण्याभोवती त्याला 'जीव' असल्यानं कोष जरूर असतात मात्र त्याचा संबंध केवळ प्राण्याच्या जीवन मरणाशी असतो. आजकाल काही ठिकाणी प्राण्यांची जन्मवेळ पाहून त्यांची कुंडली बनवली जाते. आणि तो प्राणी पाळला तर काय फळ मिळेल याचं गणित पाळणाऱ्या व्यक्तीच्या कुंडलीचा आधार घेऊन केलं जातं. पश्चिमी देशात प्राण्यांच्या सूर्य राशीवरून हे गणित मांडतात. हे गणित अनाकलनीय आहे. कोणत्याही प्राण्याच्या कुंडलीमधील स्थानांवरून भाकीत करणं शास्त्रशुद्ध नाही. प्राण्यांवर ग्रहांचा परीणाम नक्कीच होतो पण मगाशी नमूद केल्यानुसार तो केवळ कर्मांचा भाग असतो. कुंडलीतील स्थानं उदा: पंचम (संतती) स्थानावरून प्राण्यांचाही संततीचा विचार करणं अशक्य आहे. मी आधीच्या एका लेखात लिहिल्याप्रमाणे मेदनीय ज्योतिष या प्रकारात कोणत्याही देशाची कुंडली मांडून पंचम स्थानावरून लोकसंख्येचा विचार केला जातो तसाच हा भाग आहे. मला ही दोन्ही गणितं पटत नाहीत. माझ्या मते प्राणीप्रेम असण्यात काहीच वावगं नाही. पण त्याचा अतिरेक होऊन त्याचं रूपांतर प्राणी आणि मनुष्याची कुंडली जुळते आहे का अशा रीतीनं व्हावं हे अयोग्य आहे. 

माझ्या ह्या लेखाचा भावार्थ हा की प्राण्यांची स्वतंत्र कुंडली मांडणं हा भाग शास्त्राला धरून नाही. कोणत्या प्राण्याची आराधना करावी किंवा कोणता प्राणी पाळावा हे मनुष्याच्या कुंडलीवरून सांगणं अगदी योग्य आहे. पण त्याचा अतिरेक करून कोणत्यातरी प्राण्याच्या कुंडलीवरून आपण तो प्राणी घरात ठेवावा हे गणित मात्र सर्वथा अयोग्य आहे. आणि अशा प्रकारच्या कोणत्याही गणिताचा आधार घेऊन आपले निर्णय आपण घेऊ नयेत.

I recently heard about pet astrology and even astrology used for cattle by farmers. I was asked about the credibility of the application of astrology on (non human) animal species. So I have written this article to shed some light on this topic from Vedic astrology point of view. 

Vedic astrology is an important facet meant only for human species. I strongly opine that the horoscopic astrology should not be stretched and used as per our convenience for predictions like pet astrology or mundane astrology. The predictions based on planetary positions, houses and their sovereignty are applicable to humans only. Now lets see how animals are mentioned in horoscopic astrology and how it is wrongly associated to the pets astrology. 

In Hindu scriptures every deity carries an animal or in some cases a mythical entity as vahana i.e. mount or vehicle. Like Lord Ganesha is depicted as riding on a mouse as his vehicle or Lord Shiv rides on Nandi. There are many mythological stories written in various scriptures explaining the principle and reason for specific vahana. Of course it is not possible to provide the detailed information in this article. Nonetheless the practical reason behind the concept of vahana is very pertinent and scientific. Practically humans should respect every animal no matter how big or small it is. Therefore many animals are given a 'position' in Hinduism as vahana of a particular deity. By nature human beings are selfish. The whole concept behind this iconography is to avoid abuse or unnecessary hunting of even smaller creatures in nature which can help to maintain the balance of our mother nature. Not every human being is going to understand this practical aspect and apply the same in life. Thus if the animals are depicted as vahana of a deity it will definitely succor to stop or at least reduce the intensity of disgracing the non human creatures. That's why non human creatures from as strong as tigers to as small and infamous as crows are included in the mythical iconography. I absolutely respect and proud of our culture which takes into account the lives of almost all creatures in nature. 

Many Hindu scriptures describe about the pets or animals to be worshiped on the basis of human kundlis. The rationality behind this reckoning is different and scientific. Importantly the professionals like farmers or butchers who have to work with animals need to know about the breed of animals which is profitable not only from their business point of view but also considering the natural resources. At such points the issue is to avoid any unnecessary physical torment of animals. People who are not in these professions are advised in two ways. One is about the pet species and other is about the worship of an animal as an entity which is an astrological remedy. Lets understand the principles behind these. Many people love pets. Though there are various reasons for keeping a pet at home, mainly two purposes are common one is love for animals and the other is safety. When the kundli of the people interested in keeping a pet is observed it can only speculate about the species of the animal to be kept at home so as to increase positive energy. If we understand the human life cycle we can notice that the human soul travels through 84 million yonis, thus in some or the other birth the soul is born as an insect or animal depending on the karma. So all non human creatures have seven koshas or sheaths around them. From human kundli it can be calculated that which animal can provide positive energy. Keeping that particular animal at home will definitely help in many ways. In ancient times people kept crows, chameleons or even snakes as pets. In today's world the definition of 'pets' has changed completely due to some developed laws and thought procedures depending on various cultures. Nevertheless increasing positive energy is the primary goal of livestock (other than farmers). Keeping animals just for the sake of their beauty is not supported by shastras or I can say its a secondary purpose when it comes to the balance of mother nature. I will just give a small example. A dog represents Rahu or Ketu according to Hindu astrology. Thus keeping a dog at home is a genuine remedy recommended for people with malefic Rahu or Ketu in the kundli. Worshiping an animal is the extension of this of remedy. When a querent is given a remedy like to worship an animal, give a particular food to particular animal on a specific date / time or worship an animal of specific colour (Tantra shastra), it is calculated on the basis of the planetary position in the querent's kundli. I again highlight that keeping a pet and worshiping an animal are totally different things. To simplify it more I will add that as every planet has it's own governing body it is also allotted with a specific animal. Thus to reduce the ill effects of a particular planet in the kundli a person is recommended to worship the animal governed by that planet. It is very similar to the gemstone therapy used for the planets. In case of worshiping the animal it is not at all necessary to keep the animal as a pet. In Vedic and specifically Tantra shastra such remedies are very common and have a specific procedure. For example a black dog is to be given a chapati (Indian bread) for seven days is one of the remedy recommended for certain planetary issues. It is not necessary that the affected person should keep the black dog as a pet. He / she can give the chapati to a street dog to achieve the desired results. The purpose behind such remedies are like minimizing the ill effects of the planets or get relief from the sins etc. 

Now the question arises is whether animals are affected by the planetary conditions or not? I have an opinion that making a kundli of a non human creature is absolutely meaningless. A kundli os meant for a human being who lives a life with certain laws, emotions and life events. A human birth of a soul has a very deep and bass meaning in nature. But a birth in other yonis has the only purpose of completing a life cycle on the basis of three karmas. The animals other than humans are only influenced by nature's law and are not linked to any human like emotions or social laws or other life events. This doesn't mean that animal species have no laws at all. Nevertheless the laws of animal life only support their survival of them and their species in the nature. As the life events like education, marriage, earning and (human like) emotions do not play any role in the animal world, calculating the kundli of an animal based on it's birth time is a far fetched concept. Though animals like dogs are friends to humans and do love humans who love them, it can not be ubiquitous like us. As the animals have 'life' they have koshas around them but they only contribute in completion of their life cycle. I heard that nowadays some people are asking for the kundli of an animal by providing it's birth details to the astrologers. Then the kundli of the pet and the would be owner are 'matched' to know about their life together. In western countries this calculation is based on Sun signs. This kind of calculation is incomprehensible. Predicting certain events from the houses of the animal's kundli is a fallacious practice. As I have mentioned earlier the planets do influence an animal's life, but it is only meant for completing the life cycle on the basis of karmas. For example: The houses in the kundli like fifth (progeny) house to be linked with the progeny of the animal is unthinkable. It is similar to the mundane astrology practice where the fifth house in a country's kundli is used to predict the population of that country. I abhor both of these practices. I respect the concept of animal love, as there is nothing wrong about it. But stretching this concept to 'match' the kundlis of animals and humans is baffling. 

The gist of my today's article is to make the readers aware that calculating the kundli of the animals is not recommended by shastras. According to Hindu astrology one can suggest about the pet species or remedies for worshiping the animals. The calculation based on the animal's kundli for keeping it as a pet or other purposes is impractical. I recommend all the readers not to fall for such trickery and ask the queries regarding pets or animal husbandry to any authentic scholar.

सिरीयल किलिंग आणि ज्योतिष शास्त्र (Serial killing and Vedic Astrology)

प्रत्येक व्यक्तीचा स्वभाव वेगळा असतो. माणसाच्या स्वभावातले दोष समजून घेऊन आपण त्यानुसार कोणाशी जुळवून घेतो किंवा कधी कधी स्वतःमध्ये बदल घडवायचा प्रयत्न करतो. काही दोष हे समजून घ्यायच्या पलीकडले असतात. उदा: मनुष्य हत्या. काही विशिष्ट कारणानं मनुष्याच्या हातून दुसऱ्या माणसाची हत्या होते. पण आज जगात असे अनेक गुन्हेगार आहेत जे काही काळाच्या अंतरानं संबंध नसलेल्या अनेक व्यक्तींची हत्या करतात, ज्याला दृश्य कारण नसलं तरी मानसिक दोष हेच कारण दिसून येतं. अशा गुन्हेगारांना सिरीयल किलर किंवा साखळी हत्या करणारा असं म्हटलं जातं. भारतात हा प्रकार कमी असला तरी दुर्मिळ नक्कीच नाही. ह्या अशा हत्यांचा मनुष्य स्वभाव आणि त्या अनुषंगानं ज्योतिष शास्त्राशी काय संबंध येतो यावर आज मी माझे विचार मांडणार आहे. 

प्रथम साखळी हत्या म्हणजे काय हे थोडक्यात समजून घेऊ. जेव्हा एखादी व्यक्ती एक हत्या करून थांबत नाही तर काही काळानं दुसरी मग काही काळानं तिसरी अशा हत्यांचं सत्र चालूच ठेवते त्याला साखळी हत्या म्हटलं जातं. पण एकाच वेळी अनेक माणसांची हत्या केली तर त्याला सामूहिक हत्या म्हटलं जातं. त्यानंतर तो गुन्हेगार परत हत्या करेलच अशी शाश्वती नसते. जगात जवळपास प्रत्येक देशात साखळी हत्या करणारे गुन्हेगार आहेत. पण त्यांची सर्वात मोठी संख्या मात्र अमेरीकेत आहे. मी हा विषय निवडण्यामागचं खास कारण म्हणजे जगातील सर्वात लहान वयाचा सिरीयल किलर दुर्दैवानं भारतीय आहे. बिहारमधील अमरदीप सदा (फोटो पहा) ह्या आठ वर्षीय मुलानं ३ बालकांची हत्या केली ज्यात त्याच्या आठ महिन्यांच्या सख्ख्या बहिणीचाही समावेश होता. जगातील अनेक १० वर्षांपासूनची मुलं ह्या गुन्ह्यात सापडली आहेत. इतक्या लहान वयात देखील इतका मोठा गुन्हा कसा घडू शकतो असा प्रश्न आपल्याला नाही पडला तरच नवल.    

  

मनुष्य हत्येमागे गुन्हेगारांच्या ज्या भावना असतात त्या राग, द्वेष, सूड, आर्थिक फायदा, फसवणूक, शारीरिक आकर्षण अशा प्रकारच्या असतात. बऱ्याचदा एका लक्ष्य केलेल्या व्यक्तीला मारून त्या भावना थांबतातही. पण सिरीयल किलर्स मध्ये ह्या भावनांचा ओघ चालूच असतो. मानवहत्येचा ज्योतिष शास्त्राच्या दृष्टीनं विचार केला तर काही ग्रह / योग विशेष करून समोर येतात. कुंडलीतील 'गण' हा भाग मी सर्वप्रथम विचारात घेतला आहे. देव, मनुष्य आणि राक्षस अशा तीन गणांत मनुष्य स्वभावाची वर्गवारी झाली आहे जी चंद्र रास आणि नक्षत्रावर अवलंबून असते. नावाप्रमाणेच राक्षसगणी मनुष्य थोडा कडक स्वभावाचा असतो आणि कमी भावनाशील असतो. जेव्हा चंद्र बिघडल्यानं याचा अतिरेक होतो तेव्हा मनुष्य हत्येपर्यंतही या व्यक्तींची मजल जाते. याला वाईट मंगळाची साथ असेल तर हत्या करण्याचे विचार पूर्णत्वाला पोचतात. मंगळ हा धैर्य देतो, रक्ताचा कारक आहे पण तो बिघडला असेल तर अशी क्रूरकृत्य केली जातात. अर्थात हत्या करण्यामागे जी कारणं आहेत त्या कारणांशी संबंधित ग्रह व योग तितकेच वाईट असले पाहिजेत. उदा: जर एकतर्फी प्रेम वा शारीरिक संबंधातून हत्या घडली तर शुक्र बिघडलेला असतो. जर आर्थिक व्यवहारातून हत्या घडली तर कुंडलीतील धनेश, गुरु हे बिघडलेले असतात. राहू आणि केतू या पापग्रहांचा विचार अतिशय महत्त्वाचा ठरतो. चंद्र किंवा मंगळ यांचा राहू, केतू किंवा क्वचित शनिबरोबर संबंध आल्याशिवाय मन इतकं वाईट विचार करत नाही. मनाचा कारक चंद्र बिघडणं हा हत्येसारख्या गुन्ह्यांच्या मागील प्रथम व अनिवार्य कारण आहे. चंद्र सुस्थितीत असेल तर हत्येसारखा गुन्हा घडत नाही. किंबहुना अशी कोणतीही कुंडली माझ्यासमोर आली नाही. कुंडलीतील रवि हा एक मुद्दा थोडा दुय्यम असला तरी विचारात घेण्यासारखा आहे. रवि राग, अतिरेकी भावना तर देतोच पण राहू वा केतू बरोबर अंशात्मक युतीमध्ये असेल तर सुडाची भावना असते. अशा वेळी अनेक दिवस राग मनात ठेवून मग हत्या केली जाते अशी अनेक उदाहरणं आहेत. 

सिरीयल किलर्सचा विचार करायचा तर अनेक मुद्दे विचारात घेतले जातात. पहिला मुद्दा येतो तो त्यांच्या पार्श्वभूमीचा. जवळपास सगळ्याच सिरीयल किलर्सचं लहानपण हे सुखी घरातलं नसतं. आईवडिलांचं वेगळं होणं, भांडणं, व्यसनाधीनता, आई वडील चांगले पालक न असणं असे अनेक मुद्दे यात येतात. माझ्या मते लहानपणी जेव्हा मेंदूचा विकास होत असतो तेव्हा अशी काही दृश्य पाहून मनावर विपरीत परीणाम होणं साहजिकच आहे. काही मानवतावादी लोकांच्या मते लहानपणच्या गोष्टींशी मोठेपणी केलेल्या हत्यांशी संबंध कसा जोडता येईल? मी मनुष्य हत्येला कोठेही दयाभाव दाखवत नाही. पण लहानपणी मनावर झालेल्या आघातांवरच आपला स्वभाव ठरत असतो हे माझं मत आहे. सुस्थितीत, आपुलकीमध्ये वाढलेली मुलं शक्यतो असे गुन्हे करत नाहीत. आणि केलेच तर ती दर्शनी सुस्थिती आतून वेगळीच असते. लहानपणी बघितलेल्या वाईट नाते संबंधांमुळे मनात एखाद्या व्यक्ती / नातं / स्त्री वा पुरुष लिंगी व्यक्तीबद्दल तिरस्कार असतो. ज्याचे पडसाद कधी लहानपणीच उमटतात तर कधी मोठेपणी. वेळेवर उपचार केले तर ह्यातून बाहेर पडता येईलही. पण त्यांचा संबंधच केलेल्या हत्येशी नाही हे मला पटत नाही. उमलत्या वयात अशी दृश्य पाहून कठोर किंवा भावनाहीन स्वभाव तयार होतो. म्हणूनच कौटुंबिक स्थितीला आपण सर्वजण मानतो. वयानुसार होणारे संप्रेरकांचे बदल आणि अशी परीस्थिती यांचं अतूट नातं आहे. ज्या लहान मुलांनी साखळी हत्या केल्या आहेत ते लहानपणीच अशा वातावरणामुळे घरातून बाहेर पडतात किंवा दारू / गर्दच्या आहारी जातात. ज्योतिष शास्त्राच्या दृष्टीनं पाहायचं तर अनेक सिरीयल किलर्सना अशा परिस्थितीत राहावं लागलं, आई किंवा वडील कोण आहेत याचाच पत्ता नव्हता, पालकांची सततची भांडणं, वेगळं होणं किंवा अनैतिक संबंध, वैवाहिक बलात्कार अशा अनेक प्रसंगांना सामोरं गेल्यानं भावना उमलत्या वयातच कोमेजून गेल्या. त्यांच्या कुंडलीत कुटुंब स्थान बिघडलेलं असणं अगदी नियमित गोष्ट होती. मातेचा आणि मनाचा कारक चंद्र बिघडलेला असून पित्याचा कारक रवि अत्यंत वाईट स्थितीत होता. कौटुंबिक सौख्याच्या अभावामुळे प्रेम काय असतं याची कल्पनाच यांना नव्हती. चंद्र आणि मंगळ यांच्या विचित्र योगांमुळे क्रौर्य विकसित झालं. ही मुलं लहानपणी प्राणी, प्राण्यांचे मृतदेह यांची विटंबना करतात. त्यातील आसुरी आनंद कुंडलीतील चंद्र प्रतिबिंबित करतो.       

कौटुंबिक अन्यायात प्रामुख्यानं एक मुद्दा पुढे येतो तो म्हणजे लैंगिक अत्याचार. लहान मुलांवर होणाऱ्या लैंगिक अत्याचारांचं प्रमाण पश्चिमी देशांत थोडं जास्त असलं तरीही भारतात याचं प्रमाण नक्कीच विचारात घेण्याइतपत आहे. आपल्या समाज संस्थेमुळे याला अनेकदा वाचा फोडली जात नसली तरी हे प्रमाण काही नगण्य नाही. अनेक सिरीयल किलर्स लहानपणी ह्या दुर्दशेतून गेले आहेत. आणि ह्याच मुळे त्यांच्या भावना निरागस राहिल्या नाहीत. दुर्दैवानं घरातूनच याची सुरुवात होते आणि पुढे ही मुलं डोळ्यासमोर तीच चित्रं ठेवून वाईट वर्तन करतात. ज्या लिंगी व्यक्तीनं त्यांच्यावर अत्याचार केले होते त्या लिंगी व्यक्तींना छळून त्यांची हत्या केली जाते. मानसशास्त्रानुसार असे अन्याय करताना ते गुन्हेगार त्यांच्यावर झालेले अन्याय आठवून त्या अन्याय करणाऱ्या व्यक्तीलाच जणू त्रास देत आहोत अशा भावनांमध्ये जगतात. काही तज्ज्ञांच्या मते हे सिरीयल किलर्स भावनाशून्य असतात. माझ्या मते ते भावनाशून्य नसून केवळ सूडाच्या भावनेनं पेटलेले असतात. जवळपास सर्वच सिरीयल किलर्स ह्यामुळे लैंगिक छळ करून हत्या करतात किंवा विशिष्ट लिंगी व्यक्तींच्या हत्या करतात. त्यांना आपण काय करतो आहोत याची पूर्ण जाणीव असते अन्यथा ते वेडेपणाने ग्रासले आहेत असं म्हणता येईल. पण ते आयुष्यात इतर वेळी इतके चांगले वागतात, नोकरी / व्यवसाय करतात, लग्नंही करतात पण ही सुडाची भावना त्यांना स्वस्थ बसू देत नाही. 

समलैंगिकता हाही एक महत्त्वाचा मुद्दा यात येतो. समलैंगिकतेला अजूनही अपमानास्पद वागणूक मिळत असल्यानं अनेक गुन्हेगार समलिंगी व्यक्तींची हत्या करतात. आपण समलैंगिक आहोत हे समाजाला कळू नये म्हणून हे टोकाचं पाऊल उचललं जातं. समाज, धर्म, पालकांचे विचार यांचा पगडा हे यामागील प्रमुख कारण. घरातीलच समलिंगी व्यक्तीनं केलेले अत्याचार हेही यासाठी कारणीभूत ठरतात. धार्मिक स्थळं, चित्रपट क्षेत्र अशा अनेक ठिकाणी समलैंगिक अत्याचार सर्रास होत असतात. लहान मुलांनी याला वाचा फोडली तरी पूर्वी याकडे दुर्लक्ष केलं जात असे. पण आता याबद्दलचे कायदेही बदलले आहेत आणि पालकही जागरूक होत आहेत. त्यामुळे आता असे अत्याचार कमी झाले आहेत. 

वरील दोन्ही मुद्द्यांमध्ये कुंडलीतील शुक्र, चंद्र आणि मंगळ हे प्रमुख ग्रह आहेत जे अशा गुन्ह्यांसाठी कारणीभूत आहेत. पालकत्व म्हणजे नुसतंच जन्म देणं नव्हे हे ज्यांना समजत नाही असे पालक असल्यानं अशा गुन्हेगारांचं कुंडलीतील कुटुंब स्थान बिघडलेलं असतं. त्यात मंगळाची भर पडली तर हत्येसारखा गुन्हा घडतो. अशुभ शुक्र, सप्तम स्थान अशुभ योगात असणं ही कुंडलीतील प्रमुख कारणं आहेत. कुटुंब स्थानचा स्वामी शुभ ग्रह असला तरी पाप कर्तरी योगात असतो किंवा पाप ग्रहांनी दृष्ट असतो. जेव्हा अशुभ ग्रहांच्या महादशा - अंतर्दशा असतात तेव्हा हे गुन्हे प्रत्यक्षात घडतात. या शिवायही अनेक कारणांमुळे असे गुन्हे घडतात, मी प्रमुख कारणांचा इथे विचार केला आहे. 

आता प्रत्यक्ष साखळी हत्येमागील गुन्हेगारांनी दिलेली कारणं पाहू. बहुतांशी गुन्हेगारांच्या मते साखळी हत्या ही लैंगिक समाधान, द्वेष वा राग यापेक्षा दुसऱ्याला ताब्यात ठेवण्यासाठी असते. आपण एखाद्यावर अत्याचार करतो म्हणजे त्याला सुटकेचा वाव देत नाही. इथे आपण त्या बळी जाणाऱ्या व्यक्तीला कसं ताब्यात ठेवलं आहे ही भावना खूप सुखावते. अशा अबल, निःशस्त्र व्यक्तीला छळून लहानपणी जे अत्याचार झाले आहेत ते पुन्हा जगले जातात. मानसिक संतुलन बिघडल्यानं (वेड नाही) आपल्यावरील अन्यायाचा पुन्हा पुन्हा विचार केला जातो आणि अशी कृत्य घडतात. हे गुन्हेगार ओलिस ठेवलेल्या व्यक्तीला माणूस नाही तर एक वस्तू समजतात. कुंडलीतील बिघडलेला चंद्र जर राहू किंवा केतू युक्त असेल तर अशी भावना तयार होते. कारण राहू हा सूडाची भावना देतो आणि केतू एखाद्या व्यक्तीला निर्जीव वस्तू समजून त्याचा छळ करण्याची मानसिकता देतो. राहूमुळे हत्या करणं हे एक अन्यायाचा सूड घेण्याचं तंत्र ठरतं. आणि केतू माणुसकी नष्ट करतो. म्हणूनच कुंडलीतील हे योग खूप महत्त्वाचे ठरतात. बिघडलेला मंगळ असेल तर रक्तपाताला न घाबरता अशा हत्या करण्याचं सामर्थ्य मिळतं. चलित गुरु, राहू, केतू आणि रवि यात महत्त्वाचे ठरतात. तसंच हा अन्याय गुन्हेगारावर झालेला असल्यानं शुक्र वक्री किंवा अशुभ असतो.                

काही गुन्हेगारांच्या म्हणण्यानुसार समलैंगिकतेमुळे त्यांच्या भावना कधीच व्यक्त झाल्या नाहीत. म्हणून एखादी समलैंगिक व्यक्ती आयुष्यात आली तर ती जाऊ नये म्हणून त्या व्यक्तीला मारून तिच्या शरीराचे काही भाग कापून जवळ ठेवले जातात किंवा त्या व्यक्तीचं शव जवळ ठेवलं जातं. जेणेकरून ती व्यक्ती कोणत्या ना कोणत्या रूपात त्यांच्या संपर्कात आहे असं वाटतं. अशावेळी शुक्र हा विशेष भूमिकेत येतो. अत्यंत वाईट स्थितीतला शुक्र आणि मंगळ यामुळे समलैंगिक गुन्हेगार या मार्गाकडे वळतात. मानसिक असमाधान हे कारण जरी असलं तरीही ते लैंगिक बाबतीत असल्यानं शुक्र प्रमुख भूमिकेत येतो. जर बळी जाणाऱ्या व्यक्तीचा छळ केला गेला तर पुन्हा राहू आणि केतू कारणीभूत असतात. समलैंगिकतेमुळे आलेला एकटेपणा, समाजानं वाळीत टाकणं अशाही घटना यांच्याबरोबर घडतात. यामुळे अशा घटनांमध्ये शनिचा विचार केला जावा असं माझं मत आहे. शनि एकटेपणा देतोच पण प्रचंड नैराश्य देतो. ज्यामुळे अकल्पित गोष्टी घडतात ज्याला नैराश्य आणि वाईट विचारांची साथ असते. शरीराचे अवयव कापून जवळ ठेवणं, ते खाणं ह्या कल्पना शनिसारख्या ग्रहामुळेच येऊ शकतात. केतू हा मानवी शरीराला एक निर्जीव वस्तू समजून त्याचे तुकडे करायचे या भावनेला कारणीभूत ठरतो. अशा प्रकारच्या कुंडल्यांमध्ये शनि - शुक्र - चंद्र - केतू यांचे योग दिसून येतात.         

काही गुन्हेगारांच्या म्हणण्यानुसार त्यांना वाईट शक्तींनी पछाडलेलं असतं. आणि त्या शक्ती त्यांना स्वप्नात किंवा प्रत्यक्षात आकाशवाणी वा अशाच काही प्रकारे आवाजाच्या माध्यमातून सूचना देत असतात असं ते म्हणतात. या मुद्द्यात मुख्यतः मानसशास्त्रीय दृष्टिकोनातून असलेले आजार असतात. ज्यामधे स्कित्झोफ्रेनिया, दुहेरी व्यक्तिमत्व असे आजार असतात. याला मूळ कारण प्रामुख्यानं लहानपणी झालेले अन्याय हेच असलं तरी त्याची परीणीती ह्या रोगांमध्येच होते. काल्पनिक विश्व आणि प्रत्यक्ष आयुष्य याचा समन्वय साधला न गेल्यानं असे आजार होतात. मग गुन्हेगाराच्या पार्श्वभूमीनुसार त्याला सैतान, अदृश्य शक्ती इतकंच काय देवाकडूनही मनुष्य हत्या करण्याची आज्ञा झाली आहे असे भास होतात. असे आजार असतील तर ते गर्द, दारू अशा व्यसनांमुळे वाढतात किंवा नसले तर व्यसनांमुळे असे भास व्हायला सुरुवात होते. चुकीची औषधं घेणं किंवा डॉक्टरांना न विचारता औषधं वाट्टेल त्या प्रमाणात घेणं यामुळेही विकृती तयार होते. ज्योतिष शास्त्राच्या दृष्टीनं विचार करायचा तर बिघडलेला चंद्र आणि षष्ठेश वा षष्ठ स्थान यामुळे हे आजार उद्भवतात. यात मंगळाचा सहभाग असला तरी जाणून बुजून किंवा केवळ एक विकृती म्हणून हत्या केल्या जात नाहीत. तर काल्पनिक विश्वाच्या प्रभावामुळे आपण काय करतो आहोत हेच बऱ्याचदा त्यांना निदान त्या वेळी तरी समजत नाही. काही काळानं गुन्हेगारांना पश्चात्तापही होतोही पण पुन्हा ते त्याच मार्गाला जातात. म्हणजे चंद्र हा भावना नष्ट करतोच पण सारासार विचार बुद्धीही नष्ट करतो. बिघडलेल्या चंद्रामुळे त्यांचा भूतकाळ आणि काल्पनिक विश्व यातून त्यांना बाहेर पडता येत नाही. राहू आणि केतूची भूमिका निदान या प्रकरणांत जरी दुय्यम असली त्यांचा प्रभाव असल्यामुळे हत्या घडतात. कधी कधी त्यांचं मन चंद्र, शुक्र आणि शनि सारख्या ग्रहांमुळे इतकं संवेदनशील झालेलं असतं की त्यांनीच हत्या केलेल्या व्यक्तींचे मृतदेह पाहून गुन्हेगारांना भीती वाटते आणि त्यातून बाहेर पाडण्यासाठी ते पुन्हा व्यसनांचा आधार घेतात. अशा गुन्हेगारांच्या कुंडल्यांमध्ये बारावं स्थान सुद्धा बिघडलेलं असतं. ज्यामुळे व्यसनं हा प्रमुख मुद्दा ठरतो. 

या विषयावर अभ्यास करताना एक खूप वेगळा मुद्दा माझ्यासमोर आला. अनेक सिरीयल किलर्सचे बुद्ध्यांक अतिशय उच्च होते. 'उनाबॉम्बर' म्हणून प्रसिद्ध असलेल्या गणितात डॉक्टरेट मिळवलेल्या टेड कॅक्झिन्स्कीचा बुद्ध्यांक तर आईनस्टाईन यांच्यापेक्षाही जास्त होता. एडमंड केम्पर, जेफ्री डाहमर, डेनिस निल्सन अशा अनेक गुन्हेगारांचे बुद्ध्यांक चांगले होते. म्हणजे केवळ बुद्धीचा अभाव म्हणून अशी कृत्यं घडत नाहीत. तर अतिसंवेदनशील मनामुळे टोकाचे विचार केले जातात आणि त्यातूनच मानसिक आजार उद्भवून असे गुन्हे घडतात. बुद्ध्यांक उच्च असणारे गुन्हेगार हे टोकाचे अहंकारी असतात ज्यांना narcissistic म्हटलं जातं, ज्यात अगदी हिटलरचाही समावेश होतो. जॅक अंटरविगर उर्फ व्हिएन्ना स्ट्रँगलर आणि टेड बंडी हे गुन्हेगार म्हणजे याचं उत्तम उदाहरण. टोकाच्या अहंकारापायी त्यांचं मानसिक संतुलन बिघडलं. जॅक तर इतका हुशार, अहंकारी होता की पहिल्या हत्येच्या सत्रानंतर तो मोकळा सुटला (parole) आणि त्यानं हत्येच्या मानसिकतेवर आधारून आत्मचरीत्रही लिहिलं. त्याच वेळी तो इतर हत्याही करत होता. टेड बंडी अनेकदा तुरुंगातून पळून जाण्यात यशस्वी झाला, त्यानं तुरुंगात लग्नही केलं आणि पोलिसांना बुद्धिमत्तेच्या जोरावर फसवून बेकायदेशीररीत्या पत्नीशी तुरुंगात एकांतात भेटी घेतल्या आणि त्यांना एक संततीही झाली. स्वतःचा वकील म्हणून त्यानेच त्याचा दावा सिद्ध करण्याचा अयशस्वी प्रयत्नही केला. त्याचे आजोबा (आईचे वडील) हेच त्याचे वडील होते ही गोष्ट त्याच्या लक्षात आल्यावर त्याच्या मनात स्त्रीबद्दल एक तिरस्कार तयार झाला. त्यात त्याला एका मुलीनं लग्नासाठी नकार दिला आणि त्याचा अहंकार दुखावला. त्यामुळे हा अति अहंकारी माणूस एक सिरीयल किलर बनला आणि हत्या केलेल्या स्त्रियांच्या मृतदेहाशीही संभोग करण्याइतका विकृत बनला. ह्या सगळ्याचा ज्योतिष शास्त्राच्या दृष्टीनं विचार केला तर चंद्र आणि रवि बिघडलेले असले तरी उत्तम बुद्धिमत्ता देण्याइतके नक्कीच सुस्थितीत होते. म्हणजे या गुन्हेगारांना वेड लागलं आहे असं पूर्णतः आपण म्हणू शकत नाही. दुसऱ्याला फसवण्यासाठी लागणारा मुख्य ग्रह म्हणजे बुध. याच्या जोरावर हे गुन्हेगार वाक्चातुर्यात प्राविण्य मिळवतात. मात्र हे प्राविण्य वाईट गोष्टींसाठी वापरलं जातं हे दुर्दैव आहे. सप्तम स्थान आणि बुध यांचा संबंध वाईट दृष्टीनं आला की पौरुषत्व, अहंकार अशा गोष्टी वाईट मार्गानं उद्दीपित होतात. अशा गुन्हेगारांच्या बाबतीत लैंगिक अत्याचार हा मुद्दा कदाचित नसेलही पण स्त्रीकडून (विरुद्ध लिंगी व्यक्तीकडून) झालेला अपमान हा मुद्दा असतो. आई, पत्नी, प्रेयसी यांच्याकडून झालेला हा अपमान अशा मार्गांनी बाहेर पडतो. स्त्री गुन्हेगारांच्या बाबतीत बोलायचं तर एलिन वुर्नोस (फोटो पहा) हे ह्याचं उत्तम उदाहरण. लहानपणापासून अगदी स्वतःचा भाऊ आणि आजोबांचा मित्र अशा अनेक जवळच्या व्यक्तींच्या वासनेला बळी पडलेली ही गुन्हेगार अगदी मोकळ्या स्वभावाची होती. पण दुर्दैवानं आई वडिलांनी दुर्लक्ष केल्यामुळे लहानपणीच वेश्या व्यवसायात यावं लागल्यानं पुरुषांबद्दल तिला कमालीचा तिरस्कार होता. सात पुरुषांची हत्या केल्यानंतर ती पकडली गेली ज्यात तिनं विश्वासानं आपलं मानलेली तिची समलैंगिक मैत्रिण तिला धोका देऊन गेली आणि एलिनला पकडण्यासाठी पोलिसांना मदत करताना स्वतःची मात्र सुटका करून घेतली. पुरुषी वासनेला कंटाळून समलैंगिक बनलेल्या एलिनची कहाणी दुर्दैवी असली तरी तिची मानसिकता समजून घेतल्यास असे गुन्हे घडण्यामागील कारण समजू शकेल. अशा गुन्हेगारांच्या बाबतीत हा काही एका वेळीच झालेला अपमान असेल असं नाही. फार मोठा काळ यात घालवल्यामुळे त्यांची मनस्थिती अशी होते. 

काही गुन्हेगार लहानपणी डोक्याला मार लागल्याचं सांगतात. मेंदूला झालेली जखम आणि त्याचे हे परीणाम असल्याचं डॉक्टरही मान्य करतात. पण मला हे कारण फारसं पटत नाही. केवळ मेंदूला जखम झाली तर त्यात एखादाच व्यक्ती असे गुन्हे करेल असं माझं मत आहे. अनेक गुन्हेगार जेव्हा हे कारण देतात तेव्हा ते मला अनाकलनीय वाटतं. कारण ज्या गुन्हेगारांनी हे कारण दिलं त्यांचा बुद्ध्यांक चांगला होता.    

गुन्हेगारीमध्ये जनुकं किंवा पिढीजात दोष असतात का असा एक प्रश्न नेहमी मला विचारला जातो. माझ्या मते जनुकांमधले हे दोष काहीवेळा आपल्या क्षमतेच्या बाहेरचे असतातही. अशी काही गुणसूत्रं  / जनुकं आहेत ज्यावरून साखळी हत्या सारख्या गुन्ह्यांचा मागोवा आपण घेऊ शकतो. पण केवळ हे परीमाण म्हणजे या विषयाचा अंत नव्हे. किंवा असे दोष असणारे सगळेच गुन्हेगार होत नाहीत. अन्यथा असं संशोधन करून हे गुन्हे थांबवता येतील. पण असे दोष हे फक्त एकच परीमाण आहे, जे अनेक गोष्टींवर अवलंबून आहे.  

लहानपणी झालेले अत्याचार असोत, कौटुंबिक स्थिती वाईट असो, मेंदूला लागलेला मार असो, जनुकीय दोष असो वा अन्य काही कारण असो, यातला प्रत्येक जण काही हत्या करत नाही. मग काही व्यक्तीच अशा हत्या का करतात? ज्योतिष शास्त्रीय दृष्टिकोनातून याचं उत्तर द्यायचं तर कोणत्याही वाईट परिस्थितीचा मनावर होणारा परीणाम प्रत्येकावर सारखाच होतो असं नाही. प्रत्येकाची सहनशक्ती वेगळी असते. आपल्या आयुष्यातही आपण पाहतो की एखादं संकट आल्यास घरातील प्रत्येक व्यक्ती वेगळ्या पद्धतीनं त्याचा सामना करते. त्याचप्रमाणे गुन्हेगारी हा जन्मजात दोष असण्यापेक्षा परीस्थितीमुळे उद्भवलेला दोष असतो. मग अशा अति संवेदनशील व्यक्तींना व्यसनं, एकटेपणा अशा गोष्टींमुळे वाईट मार्गांची चटक लागते, त्यातलीच ही एक. कुंडलीतील चंद्र नक्की कोणत्या पद्धतीनं बिघडला आहे याचं निदान करणं खूप महत्त्वाचं आहे. शिवाय शनि आणि केतू हे फार महत्त्वाचे ग्रह बिघडले असतील तर नैराश्याची (शनि) परिणीती हत्येमध्ये होते (केतू). मानवता सोडून दुसऱ्या व्यक्तीला एक वस्तू आणि आपल्या सूडाचा एक मार्ग समजण्याची मानसिकता तयार होते. असे ग्रहयोगच गुन्हेगार घडवतात. उदा: टेड बंडीला ज्या मुलीनं लग्नासाठी नकार दिला तिच्यासारख्या दिसणाऱ्या ३० (+) मुलींची त्यानं हत्या केली. निचीचा चंद्र केतूने युक्त असा पंचमात, सप्तमेश शनि लग्नी आणि पंचमात ५ बिघडलेले ग्रह यामुळे प्रेमातील असफलतेमुळे त्यानं अशा हत्या केल्या. दृश्य कारण हेच असलं तरी आईबद्दलचा राग, आईचे तिच्याच वडिलांशी असलेले संबंध आणि त्यामुळे उध्वस्त झालेलं बालपण हे मूळ कारण नाकारून चालणार नाही. नाहीतर नकार मिळालेली प्रत्येक व्यक्ती गुन्हे करत नाही. स्वराशीचा शुक्र कुंडलीत केंद्रात असूनही टेड असा वागला.  

असो, मी अनेक प्रकारच्या कारणांमुळे तयार झालेले गुन्हेगार आणि त्यांच्या कुंडल्यांचा अभ्यास करून वरील मतं मांडली आहेत. यात एका क्षुल्लक कारणावरून असे गुन्हे घडत असल्याचं निदान माझ्या तरी निदर्शनाला आलं नाही. फार मोठा काळ आणि तोही आयुष्यातील महत्त्वाच्या वर्षांचा काळ अशा वाईट स्थितीत गेल्यानं असे गुन्हे घडतात असं माझं स्पष्ट मत आहे. पालकत्व किती महत्त्वाचं आहे हे आपल्याला यावरून समजू शकेल. अर्थात याला प्रत्येक ठिकाणची संस्कृती, मोकळीक आणि विचारधारा हेही कारण असलं तरी मुलांची वाढ होताना त्यांना चांगल्या पद्धतीनं वाढवणं आणि चांगले पालक होऊ शकत नसतील तर मुलांना जन्मच न देणं अशा उपायांचा विचार व्हायला हवा. मुलांना नकार पचवण्याची सवय लावायला हवी आणि प्रेमानं / वेळ पडल्यास कठोरतेनं समज द्यायला हवी. याचंच उदाहरण म्हणजे भारतातील सर्वात लहान वयाचा सिरीयल किलर अमरदीप (८ वर्ष)  पकडला गेला तेव्हा त्याच्या पालकांनीच त्याला पाठिंबा द्यावा ही संतापजनक गोष्ट आहे. तसंच केवळ समाज काय म्हणेल म्हणून संतती प्राप्ती करून पुढे त्याचे परीणाम काय होतील याचा विचार न करणं हे चांगल्या पालकांचं लक्षण नाही. किंबहुना आपण एक चांगली पिढी घडवणार असू, तरच आपण पालक बनावं किंवा निदान संतती संख्या कमी असावी हे जरी वाचकांच्या लक्षात आलं तरी माझ्या अभ्यासाचं सार्थक झालं असं मी समजेन. जर दुर्दैवानं सुस्थिती असतानाही संकटं आली तर तो नशिबाचा आणि आपल्या संचित कर्माचा भाग असतो. पण विवेक बुद्धीनं आणि जागरूकतेनं वागल्यास आपण भविष्यातील गुन्हे रोखू शकतो हे आपण लक्षात घ्यावं. पालकांनी आपली कर्तव्यं पार पाडली तरीही अजूनही बऱ्याच गोष्टी आहेत ज्यामुळे मुलं वाईट मार्गाला लागू शकतात. पण जे आपल्या हातात आहे निदान ते तरी आपण निश्चित करू शकतो. म्हणूनच बाकी मुद्द्यांवर न लिहिता मी पालकत्व या मुद्द्यावर भर दिला आहे.

Every person's nature is different. By understanding the flaws sometimes we try to adjust with somebody or try to change our self. Some taints are really difficult to tackle, for example killer instincts. Due to some virile reason a person kills another person. Nonetheless some people kill many strangers with some time interval without any apparent motive but mere psychological gratification. Such killers are called as serial killers. Serial killing is not common in India though it is not rare. When a killer kills many people at a time then he is known as a mass killer. But this may not be predictive that the killer will kill again. Serial killers exist almost everywhere in the world, but their number is much higher in USA. I specifically chose this topic as the youngest serial killer is (dismally) from India. Amardeep Sada (see photo) was only 8 years old when he committed this gruesome crime and killed 3 infants including his 8 months old sister. There are many kids in the world aging from 10 years who have become serial killers. Rather it will be a wonderment if we do not have this question raised in our minds that how these kids can commit such crimes at such a tender age. 

Practically speaking the psychological motives behind murders include extreme anger, jealousy, revenge, financial gains, cheating or physical attraction. Many time the rage stops by killing the targeted person. But in case of serial killers this emotional rage goes on and on. From astrological point of view some planets / yogas are prominent in cases of murders. The Gana in kundli matters a lot, which I have considered as the first criteria. Human nature has been divided in three Ganas Dev (God), Manushya (Human) and Rakshas (Demon), which depends on the Moon sign and the Nakshatra. As the name suggests people with Rakshasa Gana tend to be more strict and with lesser emotions. When Moon is debilitated and other yogas are extremely inauspicious then the person might commit a crime like murder. When inauspicious Mars also supports such Moon then the dark fantasies like murders actually eventuate in real life. Mars gives the courage and is also responsible for bloodshed, thus when it is inauspicious, it evokes such heinous crimes. Of course the planets responsible for the root cause of murders should be equally effective when such crimes occur. Like when murders occur due to physical attraction or one sided love, then Venus will come into picture and should be inauspicious. If murders occur due to financial reasons then the second house lord and Jupiter are deteriorated. The inauspicious planets like Rahu and Ketu (Paap grahas) are equally influential in these cases. The minds of the criminals becomes turbulent when Moon or Mars are in yogas with Rahu or Ketu or sometimes Saturn. Moon which governs our minds if situated in a bad position, becomes a prominent reason for the crimes like murders. If Moon in the kundli is very auspicious then it is highly unlikely that a crime like murder can occur. The position of Sun, though secondary when it comes to the crimes is definitely a point to be considered. Sun not only gives aggression but if it is in conjunction with Rahu or Ketu it gives revengeful thoughts. When such conjunctions are there in the kundli the criminals take a long time to commit the murders even though they have revengeful thoughts in their minds.

When it comes to serial killers many aspects come into play. The first and important one is the background of these criminals. Almost all the serial killers come from a dysfunctional family. There are many issues like separation of parents, disputes, addictions or problems in parenthood etc. I strongly feel when the brain of the child is growing the child is in a critical stage of life. Exactly at the same time when child faces such circumstances there are more chances that the child gets affected in a negative way. Some humanitarians claim that these traumas in childhood can not be related to the crimes committed in adulthood. I am not at all justifying human killing, but I have a clear opinion that the trauma in childhood definitely reflects in adulthood and plays a vital role in defining the nature of a person. The children raised in a good environment and affection will hardly turn towards such crimes. And if they do commit such heinous crimes then the apparent family situation is a hoax and some thing more must have happened behind the doors. The dysfunctional family background many times creates a hatred for a particular gender. Sometimes this hatred reflects in childhood and sometimes in adulthood. A good treatment can help these children if treated in time. But this is totally not related to the crimes like murders is not acceptable. When children experience such grating situations at the budding age they tend to become harsh and sometimes emotionless in the adulthood. This is the reason we respect family values. The hormonal changes of the children in growing age and such conditions have inseparable relation. The serial killers who have faced such situations usually leave the home at very young age or get addicted to drugs / alcohol. Thinking from astrological point of view many serial killers came from dysfunctional families and had to experience extreme circumstances like parental disputes, unawareness of biological parents, illicit relationships of family members or marital rapes etc. which withered their tender emotions at a very young age. The second house (family) in their kundlis was absolutely debilitated which was a very common factor due to obvious reasons. Due to such factors lack of affection was a prevailing factor. An inauspicious yog between Moon and Mars created cruelty and psychopathy in some cases. Mostly these children expressed their emotions by torturing animals or playing with animal carcasses. The evil emotions were reflected by the debilitated or inauspicious Moon in their kundlis. 

The dysfunctional family background also highlights one more point and that is sexual harassment. Though pedophilia is more common in western countries it is not uncommon in countries like India. Albeit it is not documented due to social pressure here but it is definitely not negligible. Most of the serial killers have gone through such devastating experiences and this explains why their tender innocent emotions were harmed. Sadly the pedophilia begins at home and these children whoi are victims, keep the same picture in front of their minds and behave inhumanely in future. They tend to torture or kill the people of same gender, which have traumatized them in their childhood. According to psychological analysis they relive the same torture and assume that they are torturing the same person. Some analysts think that serial killers are emotionless morons. But I think they are not emotionless but in fact have very strong emotions of revenge, though they become ruthless due to the trauma. Most of the serial killers prefer to torture the victims first and then kill them or attack victims of a particular gender, due to their traumatizing past. They are aware of what they are doing otherwise they can be categorized as insane. But in their day to day life they behave so normally like they work, get married and / or have kids but the revengeful thoughts cause the anxiety and disquietude.    

Sexual orientation precisely homosexuality is also a very important parameter here. Even today homosexuality is not accepted openly in our society. Thus many serial killers with homosexual orientation have killed their homosexual partners or victims of  same gender. Due to social pressure these criminals are bound to hide their feelings and the outrage results in killing or torture of the victims. The crub of society, religion or parental views puts immense pressure on the minds of homosexuals in many cases. As a consequence of this sexual assault sometimes begins at home. These kinds of assaults are especially common at religious places or in film industry. Decades earlier when children tried to expose these assaults they were either neglected or the children were pressurized. Thankfully today such harassment cases are not disregarded and parents also remain alert about the safety of their children. This has significantly reduced the number of such assaults.  

In both the above mentioned points Venus, Moon and Mars play a vital role and become responsible for the crimes related to sexual assaults. The killers who were once victims of such assaults have a very inauspicious second house and planets related to the house in their kundlis. The reason behind this is  their parents who do not understand the concept of 'parenthood', which is not just giving birth to the next generation. Inauspicious Venus and seventh house in the kundli are the primary reasons behind such consequences. Even if the lord of the second house is a good planet it is placed in the 'pap kartari' yog or aspected by some powerful inauspicious planet. The crimes actually occur when the Mahadasha or Antardasha of such inauspicious planets are running. There are numerous external reasons behind the heinous crimes but I have focused on major reasons affecting the criminals' minds. 

Now lets consider the reasons given by the serial killers which according to them, 'compelled' them to commit the crimes.  Most of the killers stated that serial killing is not about sexual pleasures, jealousy or anger but it is all about having full control over the victim. While torturing the victims they get a feeling that victims can not escape the situation and this possession gives the killers a strange pleasure. The killers relive the same tortures which they had faced in their childhood by re enacting using helpless victims. The disturbed minds of the criminals (not insanity) recollect those bad memories again and again and thus repeat the torture procedures on the victims. They abduct the victims and consider them as their slaves or non living toys. When Moon in the kundlis of such criminals is debilitated or in conjunction with Rahu or Ketu, boosts the psychopathy. As Rahu supports the feeling of revenge and Ketu makes them consider other human as a non living thing. Rahu supports the dark fantasies of killing, which is taken as a way of getting revenge and Ketu makes them inhumane. This is why these planets are vital while analyzing the kundlis of serial killers. If inauspicious Mars supports such yogas then it removes the fear of bloodshed and encourages for killings. Horary Jupiter, Rahu, Ketu and Sun are all important planets in these cases. Also as the serial killers were once victims of the torture or assault, Venus is either retrograde or inauspicious. 

Some killers mention that the homosexuality separated them from the society as they could not express their feelings. So when a person of same sexuality comes into their lives they become possessive and despicable to such a level that they kill the victim, cut their body parts and keep with them or keep the dead body near them for a long time. This makes them feel that the victim is near them in some or the other form, which can be the victim's body part too. In such cases Venus in the kundlis comes into play. A deadly combination of miserable Venus and Mars trigger the dark fantasies of homosexuals. Mental in-satisfaction can be the apparent reason but the roots of the issues lie in sexual (dark) fantasies which are not fulfilled in normal life where Venus plays a major role. Rahu and Ketu come into picture when the victim is not only abducted but tortured and killed. Rejection due to homosexuality in many cases cause loneliness or even ostracism.  I feel Saturn is the planet to be considered here. Inauspicious Saturn not only gives loneliness but also gives pessimistic thoughts / depression due to various circumstances. This also triggers the execution of the dark fantasies which are encouraged by depression. Such Saturn can cause weird crimes like cannibalism or keeping body parts of the victims. Again Ketu gives a ruthless psyche where human body is considered as a non living source of possession. These type of kundlis show different yogas between Saturn - Venus - Moon and Ketu. 

Some serial killers say that they are possessed by demons or evil powers. These powers 'order' them to kill others through dreams or voices (auditory hallucinations). This manifests the psychological disorders which are many times not diagnosed properly. These include schizophrenia, dual personality disorder, auditory hallucinations etc. The main ground is usually the assaults occurred in the childhood which emerge in the adulthood as psychological disorders. The obvious imbalance between the fantasy world and the real world causes these disorders. Then According to the intensity of assaults faced by the criminal they hallucinate different entities like Satan, demon or even God who 'order' them to kill. Such hallucinations worsen with time and addictions like drugs or alcohol. The addictions not only worsen the symptoms but also cause the disorders if not present earlier. Too much consumption of the prescription drugs especially without doctor's advice also adds to the whimsical behaviour and psychopathy symptoms. From astrological point of view inauspicious Moon and sixth house or sixth house lord cause these mental health issues. Some times if Mars is involved then the killing is not only a disorder or a purposely committed crime but unknowingly the criminals kill the victims. Mostly at the time of killing either they are under the effect of drugs or psychopathy drifts where the fantasy world overcomes the real world. In some cases some killers repent after they realize what they have done but their mental instability drives them towards their fantasy world again. The inauspicious Moon not only makes them emotionless but also kills their thinking power. This Moon forces them to stay in their fantasy world rather than real world. Rahu and Ketu may play a secondary role in this type of cases but definitely contribute in murders as mentioned earlier. Sometimes the killers become so sensitive that they get scared after viewing the gory scene created by themselves but again they take help of addictions to come out of the trauma. Such criminals also have inauspicious twelfth house in their kundlis which contributes to their habit of using drugs / alcohol as a remedy to calm their minds. 

I came across another strange point while studying the serial killers. Many of the serial killers have higher IQs. Famous 'Unabomber', Ted Kaczynski a PhD holder in mathematics, had his IQ even higher than Einstein. Edmind Kemper, Jeffrey Dahmer, Dennis Nilsen are some of the notable killers who had very high IQs. This shows that lack of intelligence is not the reason behind the serial murders. In fact intelligent but over sensitive minds of the killers are prone to psychological disorders which cause the crimes. Usually the intelligent killers are narcissistic too, this can also be proved by the example of Adolf Hitler. The best examples of narcissistic serial killers the Vienna strangler - Jack Unterweger and Ted Bundy. Extreme ego and pride disturbed their mental balance. Jack Unterweger was such a clever murderer that he managed to get released on parole, wrote his autobiography and at the same time kept on committing murders. Ted Bundy successfully broke out of prison a lot of times, he got married while in prison and also manipulated prison officers for illegal conjugal visits and fathered a baby girl. During trial he unsuccessfully advocated himself but was finally executed. When he came to know that his maternal grandfather is his biological father, he started hating females. In all this a girl whom he loved a lot rejected his marriage proposal and this narcissistic person transformed into a serial murderer and a necrophiliac. From astrological point of view his Moon and Sun were definitely bad but not inauspicious so he got cleverness and could even manipulate police. This proves that insanity can not be linked to these kind of criminals. Mercury plays an important role when people manipulate others. A properly placed Mercury in these criminals' kundlis furnishes them with the power of manipulation and talking skills. Sadly this natural gift is utilized in a wrong way. When seventh house and Mercury are connected in some way, it affects manhood and ego in an unsettling way. In such cases sexual assaults in childhood are not so common but abasement or abuse from an opposite gendered person is a vital factor. In cases of males an disgrace due to mother, sister, lover or wife bursts out as extreme obloquy. While talking about female criminals I can not stop myself mentioning about Aileen Wuornos (see photo). From her early childhood always smiling Aileen, was an easy prey for her own brother and her grandfather's friend.  Due to mere negligence from her parents she had to start prostitution at a tender age and started hating males. She was even betrayed by her homosexual partner whom she loved and trusted a lot, helped the police to catch Aileen after committing 7 murders. After years of sexual exploitation by males finally Aileen became a homosexual. Her story is definitely sad and painful but if we analyse her past and her mental instability it will shed light on her killing spree. In these cases such abuse is definitely not a one time incidence. Such psyche develops after years of abuse and assaults. 

A very common reason provided by serial murderers is that they had a significant injuries on their heads in childhood. Even doctors agree to the theory that such wounds can cause drastic changes in the psychology. I really doubt that these unspecified head injuries can be related to the murders committed in adulthood. I think in rare cases this can be the manifestation of the injuries but commonly linking this factors to killing spree is not acceptable. As many of the serial murderers who claimed that they had such injuries had a very good IQ and presence of mind.        

   

Many people ask me whether genetic disorders can be linked to the crimes like serial killing. In my opinion many times genetic disorders are highly unpredictable. We can trace the behavioural patterns like crimes by studying DNA. But this can not be the full proof evidence to prove that the accused is a criminal. I feel genetic disorders are not predictive to full extent otherwise every person with same genetic pattern will certainly become a serial murderer. And it will become very easy to stop such crimes on the basis of genetic analysis. I feel this can be one of the criteria of analyzing but it will depend on various other factors and can not be used in legal trials as a full proof against the accused. 

Not every body who faced assaults in childhood, had dysfunctional family, had head injury or genetic disorder becomes a serial murderer. Then why some people with similar background become criminals but not all? From astrological point of view, I feel that everybody gets affected by such circumstances in a different way. Everybody has different level of tolerance. Even we can observe the same pattern in our day to day life. Every person in our family reacts differently to the same situation. Similarly I feel criminal behaviour is rather a result of various experiences of life than a genetic disorder. When such sensitive people get addicted to drugs or alcohol, in the same way murders become their addiction. I feel one should not only focus on inauspicious Moon but should think about the yogas or reasons behind such Moon. When Saturn or Ketu are debilitated or badly placed then depression (Saturn) can lead to murder (Ketu). This combination compels them to behave with such a mindset that they consider victims a way to overcome their past. Such planetary combinations create criminals. Viz; When Ted Bundy was rejected by a girl whom he loved so badly that he killed more than 30 girls who looked similar to the girl who rejected him. A debilitated Moon in the fifth house with Ketu, seventh house lord Saturn in ascendant and 5 inauspicious planets in the fifth house in the kundli of Ted made him so sensitive and narcissistic that he started murdering after the rejection which became the triggering factor. Then again, this is an apparent reason as the real trauma was his hatred for his mother, incestuous relationship between his mother and grandfather and his disturbed childhood. This reason is of utmost importance as every man who gets rejected doesn't become a murderer. Though a good Venus in it's own sign was present in Ted's kundli it could not stop his murderous thoughts. 

Well, I have studied the kundlis of many serial murderers who came from different backgrounds. I never observed that a small reason created these monsters. Constant abuse for a significant period of time that too at a very crucial phase of life was the obvious reason for the crimes to occur. This depicts the importance of 'parenthood' in real terms. Of course the factors like cultures, ideologies do matter. I think practical remedies like being good parents or not to become parents if it is not possible should be taken into account seriously. Children should be taught to digest rejection either gently or harshly if needed. The reason I am putting this point is when the youngest serial killer 8 years old Amardeep Sada (India) was arrested his parents supported him and were in a denial position, which was harrowing. Giving birth to the progeny just under social pressure is also not a sign of good parenthood. I will be grateful if the readers can understand the importance of parenthood and think about having children if they can become good parents or at least having few number of children depending on their capacity. If crisis suddenly occurs it can be the result of Sanchit Karma and destiny. But by awareness and rational thinking we can definitely stop creating future criminals. I would like to mention that other than parenthood there are many factors responsible for crimes. Nevertheless I have focused on parenthood as this factor is of utmost importance and under our control.
